It's a dull work-day aboard the Dal' Kar recon post. The guard lazily toys with his integrated HUD as he tries to pass the time. Suddenly, a small ping appears on the screen in front of him. A single vessel; apparently larger and faster than anything seen before was approaching from beyond the galaxy; from the very pits of dark space. He furrows his brow and leans forward a little bit; all the numbers are completely wrong, everything from the size of the vessel, to the power signature, to the speed were completely impossible by a modern understanding of physics and engineering.
The guard shrugs and proceeds to contact his superior officer. As the dial tone plays he keeps an eye on the sensors, a stale automated voice reminding him every 5 seconds that hostiles are inbound. When he gets through he turns his chair and causally explains the situation. As he's listening to his next orders a small bleep sounds behind him; another ship detected. Before he can consider the implication another signature pops up, and another, and another. The pace at which the new contacts are being added to the screen went from alarming to staggering in a matter of moments. The guard's ears fold back instinctively as his face is steadily bathed in an eerie red glow from the explosion of red warnings appearing on his HUD.
"Captain... I don't think we're dealing with a glitch..."
These were the first moments of the Final War.
