A gift random doodle thing I wanted to draw of toyapup/tactfulcrow's character crow paladin Anzu and my Milo, pretty immediately after doing the birthday doodle thing previously posted.
Anzu and Milo have bonded a fair amount over the second season of Wolfriders of Malvia. Like Milo, Anzu grew up in a military family as the son of a respected officer, and like Milo, Anzu lost his family during the Intervention. Despite the fact that Anzu is Malvian and Milo is Katzchian, they were able to relate to each other on the common ground along the adventures the party all went on.
Anzu was actually the first person Milo told about his brother in any way since he had died, and while it was surface-level, mostly just revealing the fact he existed, it was still something Milo thought he'd never talk about with anyone for the rest of his life. Anzu was also the first person that Milo ever showed the contents of his locket to, and the only one voluntarily. You'd think they'd be enemies considering all that happened, but they've formed a genuine friendship, as grumpy as Milo is in general about everything still.
Also this is actually showing off the one real wardrobe change for Milo over the years-spanning campaign, which is him pretty much ditching the big black duster coat and electing to just go with the cloak and uniform combo.

The military backgrounds sort of reminds me of a book called Monstrous Regiment.
In it, they talk about the woes of being a soldier and how the guy opposite you probably doesn't want to kill you and just wants to go home, but if they don't stab you, you might stab them so...
Theirs also the Soldiers Prayer, which is pretty much just a quick prayer to whatever god might be listening in the hopes you stick the enemy before they stick you.
Not quite the same, but when you strip back things like the flag you fight under and the colours you wear, you're both just men yelled at to stab straw men in a training ground until you can fool yourself into thinking all men are made of straw.
Still, it must have made both characters uneasy, essentially having enemies not more than a bedroll apart from one another, but with reliance on one another, trust was forged and in time, it became stronger than steel and transcended the bonds of countries and the ill will bred between them.
