Vanguard G - Kazuma x Chrono (GT M/M)
And here we are for Good Friday the last chapter and it is a super long one at that, pushing just under 5k.
I apologise for how open ended this is but my idea kinda stopped here and I'm not sure what to do with it next, thus it can end there and be left to your imagination or if that lightbulb moment appears down the line, I can continue it where I left off.
Hope you enjoyed it all so far! Their story from team mates/friends to an official couple was fun to explore! Could easily do this for several more days yet >.<
Kazuma stirred to the feeling of something cold whipping against the bottom of his feet and the weight of being pinned down. Grudgingly but slowly the teen pushed himself up on to his elbows and then on to the awkward curved angle against a wall or at least what he thought was a wall.
Blinking a few more times as he shielded his eyes from the brightness of the sun, Kazuma slowly got his bearings, even if those bearings weren’t making any sense.
“That shouldn’t be there…”
As Kazuma stared at the luxury suite balcony next to his shoulder in bafflement, to the weight that was pinning him down to be greeted by a mess of red and a rather familiar swirl...
“SHINDOU!?”
That definitely shouldn’t be there, what was he doing there? Why was he there? Asleep, head resting on top of his chest with one hand beside it, fast asleep. As the dark haired teen tried to re-collect his thoughts of what happened yesterday or how they ended up in such a position as the blushing teen tried to restrain himself from grinning or stroking those wild bedhead red bangs but that twirl most of all was the hardest to ignore.
“If I’m still dreaming… don’t wake me up anytime soon…” mumbled Kazuma, taking in the view of the moment for future self’s keepsake.
“Mmm… still can’t believe you can be this lucky?”
“Shindou! You’re awake!?... ”
“Nuh-uh…we went over this…”
“We did?”
“Mmhmm…now pipe down, five more minutes…”
The red head sluggishly spoke as he adjusted his position slightly, tucking himself in nearer to Kazuma’s side, his hand sliding up the others chest to compensate for the new angle while Kazuma’s hands awkwardly floated above him, the dark haired teen unsure what to do with them all of a sudden until eventually dropping them to his sides.
Feeling something under the tip of his fingers, a passing second of bewildered disbelief hit Kazuma as he just about managed to pick up and hold the odd item loosely in between the tip of his fingers as he brought what looked like beach parasol to eye level, carefully rolling it between his fingers. Kazuma’s gaze went from the beach parasol down the length of his own body, which covered the trees to his legs which rested on fine white sand and finally his feet which were casually sitting out in the tide. Which must have meant the sensation that disturbed him before was the tide coming back in...
“So that really was a thing then…”
Kazuma started as he took in his new perspective, yesterday slowly coming back to him as he looked down at the sleeping Chrono, or rather the trying to get back to sleep Chrono but was struggling due to the other teens consistent fidgeting. Then every part of yesterday really did happen…? It wasn’t a dream or some figment of his imagination? Still, it wouldn’t hurt to double check…
“Hey Chrono…yesterday did I…?”
“Yup…”
“So are we now…?”
“Yup”
“And you’re now my…were now?”
“Crazy huh”
Chrono combined a smirk and yawn, still refusing to move entirely as the dark haired teen just let it all sink in, a creeping blush and a gentle smile coming to his face as he tenderly started to stroke Chrono’s hair with that more than welcoming confirmation in place, curling and straightening that odd twirl over and over.
“Ah, so you’re finally awake, it’s about time!”
Came a distorted voice from nearby, almost tinted with an echo like it came from a speaker and yet familiar. Glancing down, Kazuma looked at the figure in confusion as it waved up at him. Sliding back down to be on level with the balcony, the teen just stared in bafflement at the figure; it was Taiyou, definitely Taiyou and he had something with him, well he was certain he was holding something in his hand but none of that came close to how small he appeared now and that was saying something, the munchkin wasn’t the tallest of people to begin with but now he looked like some kind of model miniature in a play house.
“About time? What time is it? How long have we been out for?”
“Roughly thirty six hours, it’s just gone three in the afternoon; you’ve almost slept through two whole days, I guess all those growth spurts get exhausting?”
“Hey!? What’s that su…ack…”
“Thirty six hours!!!”
Shouted a formerly sluggish red head with a new lease of life as he sprung up to a crashing sound from behind which quickly diverted his attention soon after. Rapidly turning round Chrono grimaced at the sight, that wasn’t a good way to start the day... or afternoon apparently.
“Kouji isn’t going to be too happy about that…”
“Chrono! Get off me!”
“That’s more like it…”
“Off!”
Coughed Kazuma from underneath Chrono, the red head having used him as a surprise spring board to push himself up on, as Taiyou covered his ears from the loudness of Chrono’s voice, he was right in front of him and it was only now he could start to unappreciate the uncomfortable size difference between them.
“Huh?... My bad…guess Tokoha was right; I can be such a klutz…”
Chrono started, awkwardly fidgeting into a seated position as the dark haired teen simply shrugged it off while watching Chrono try and shake his foot free from the newly formed ruins of the sea cottages he ploughed his foot straight through, with most now being nothing more than driftwood, those that were lucky enough to survive were on the verge of caving in on themselves due to their weakened structure; it was only a matter of time before the whole section came washing back up onto the shore as the red head finally freed his foot.
“Well that was something…”
“Don’t start…I can already hear the earful coming from Kouji…”
“Calm down Chrono…”
Kazuma begun as he glanced over the area searching for a target, clenching his fist and bringing it into the air, the dark haired teen simply leaned across the beach to the opposite side before finally slamming his fist into the docking area, snapping the bridges instantly, while others broke free and drifted away from the shoreline. The few small boats that sat there were now submerged under the tidal wave created from the force of impact.
“There…now he can’t be only mad at you”
“uhh Kazuma…” Chrono hesitantly started, pointing behind the other teen.
“Hmm…? That stunt is going to have some after-effects on the main land isn’t it…?”
Grimaced Kazuma as the impact had sent a rather unintended large tidal wave heading in the opposite direction as Chrono simply shrugged back, if they were lucky, perhaps the energy would have died down enough to only be a trickle up the shore of where ever it hit and said mainland was further rather than closer.
“Heh… it’s the thought that counts right? I got your sentiment at least…” Chrono nervously laughed as he looked at Kazuma with a content smile.
Barely a couple of hours later, Chrono and Kazuma were caught up to speed the best they could, their new size proving to be a bit difficult to work with against the now micro Taiyou. The Gold Paladin user went on to explain how they helped set up the speaker system yesterday through a video chat and that he had been reporting to Ibuki every couple of hours, even if the only thing to report was the fact the two of them were still sleeping and the report back was that they were still looking into a reversal with no real news.
Before any of them knew it, the sun was low in the sky and evening was fast approaching, which felt peculiar considering they had just got up. Silence had fallen over the trio, an awkward air mixed with uncertainty with neither boy to sure what to say without mentioning the obvious topic of radical size difference or even finding out how big the two older teens had become but rather actually distancing himself from his team mates.
Chrono and Kazuma just leaned back on the beach, looking out into the sea, after all on a deserted resort island, there wasn’t much else to do at their size, leaving the two older teens chatting away as Taiyou sat on Kazuma’s toe, mentioning something about seeing a pod of dolphins come pass in the evenings and wanting to get better look; while this way, he could use Kazuma as a viewing platform and wouldn’t need to fret about a boat but not a peep from the younger boy since.
“Hey Kazuma…umm…”
“Hmm? What?”
“Well…could I…confess something to you…”
Kazuma casually kept his gaze on Taiyou, having obliged the Muchkin simply because it was the Muchkin who had asked as he gave Chrono a passing glance to indicate he was listening as the twirly haired figure awkwardly continued, this more fidgety side was not impressive at all, if anything it was annoying, if he had something to say just say it, then again, that word confess thrown at the end didn’t make him feel comfortable all of a sudden, was he having second thoughts about this already?
“Hey!? Why are you whispering? I take it you’re trying to whisper…you protecting Taiyou with that level or rather is this something you don’t want Taiyou to hear? Stop being awkward and spit it out, what is it?”
Kazuma spoke up only to be shushed by Chrono as the other boy placed a hand over his mouth, much to his surprise as he finally looked at Chrono directly, brow momentarily furrowed in annoyance as Kazuma casually moved the others arm to the side, the shifted look of confusion Chrono’s only sign to continue and potentially put him out his misery if what he thought was the case turned out to be true…
“Give me a moment…patience is meant to be a virtue after all!”
“Ha, rather rich coming from you Twirly-head, you’re as impatient as they come…”
“I told you not to call me that! And has nothing to do with the point…stop interrupting!”
“Well then which is it… you don’t want Taiyou to hear?”
Chrono reluctantly nodded at that part as he glanced over at the other boy or more so squinted at the figure casually sitting at the end of Kazuma’s toe. About to speak again, Kazuma put his hand up stopping Chrono from saying anything before pointing up at the sky or what the red head initially thought was the sky as it took a moment for it to sink in what the other teen was trying to suggest as he finally nodded in return.
“I’ve got this…” Kazuma quietly spoke back as he leaned over, gently nudging Taiyou with the tip of his finger, “Oi Munchkin, need to move you for a while, my legs have gone to sleep here…”
Kazuma winced his way through a fake performance as he held his hand out for the younger boy to jump into, even though at this point he was almost certain a single finger would have more than sufficed. Within moments Taiyou was back on the luxury suite balcony waving at the other two boys, mic in hand again.
“It’s ok, I need to phone Ibuki-san and give him an update with what’s been going on! They’ll be glad to hear you two have woken up at last!”
“Seriously… what is he expecting to happen…? There is nothing here!?” Kazuma scoffed, resting his chin in his hand as he turned away.
“And hopefully an update on their work on a cure for your condition, so behave while I’m gone! Try not to destroy anything else in the meantime while you’re stretching your legs!”
“Take as long as you need Taiyou…it isn’t like we can go anywhere…”
Chrono added with a casual shrug, as Taiyou ran off indoors before either boy had a chance to say anymore. Sighing heavily, both teens just shook their head that just seemed to have happened too fast to process.
Looking at the balcony lost in thought Chrono gave an empty smile, “heh…yeah right a cure…”
“Well then, shall we...” Kazuma started pointing up once more.
Chrono watched in curiousity as the dark ,haired boy got to his feet, now standing at full height, Chrono found himself awe-struck by just how tall he appeared, it was incredible! There he was, towering above even the tallest of trees, the huts that remained barely making a mark along the side of his foot. Staring, Chrono was sure that the other teen could easily pick up a car effortlessly, perhaps even crush it single handed now? No, not just Kazuma, he likely could to, perhaps even step one flat just for the experience!
Offering him his hand to help the red head to his feet, Chrono just blinked at Kazuma, the warmth returning to his cheeks as he stared at the dark haired boy like he was the most mesmerising thing on the planet, slowly taking his hand before Kazuma simply became bored of waiting and met him half way, getting the teen onto his feet that much quicker as he held onto the stumbling red head.
“Seriously Chrono, what has gotten into you all of a sudden?”
“I…well you actually…”
“Me? What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Did you know that you look even more stunning gigantic?”
“Wha…!?” Sputtered the teen in response, choking on thin air as he looked at the red head stunned, as his own face rapidly matched the other boy’s hair colour, “ah…Chrono…you... don’t say such lame things…”
Chrono simply smiled, that flustered expression and beet red face, while amusing, had its own charm to it. Taking a moment to adjust to the new height, Chrono looked around in surprise, huge was an understatement; in less than two days the pair had almost dwarfed everything on the island, the only real benchmark left, which the pair were already around three quarters of the way there was the central and only real landmark of the island that reminded them of an old volcano.
“How? It was only a few berries…my feet have never seemed so far away…”
“A few metres here, a few metres there, they soon mount up over the hours…apparently more so when sleeping… now what did you want to talk about, spit it out before the Munchkin gets back…”
“Kazuma…I…I …” Chrono started as he turned away from the dark haired boy flustered with a slight dusting of red making itself visible, “I don’t want to take the cure!”
“What!? What brought this about!? Before you were complaining about being unable to Cardfight at this size…and now this!?”
“Perhaps, not quite this big but more around the 397cm (13ft) mark maybe? Maybe a bit bigger, I dunno…that house like size from before was a real blast!”
“How oddly specific…?”
“I’m sure there are ways round it, something like the format of the finals of the U20 would be ideal…”
“Uh...huh…as if they would allow that for casual use and what is with this sudden change of attitude?”
Kazuma sceptically questioned; not sure if this was something Chrono was serious about or something he’d simply change his mind over in another couple of hours. Still, trying to remain neutral through all of this was tough; briefly biting his lower lip as a wave of relief hit him upon Chrono’s unexpected confession, was that all it was… In contrast it would have been embarrassing to admit now, that a part of him didn’t believe this was real or that he had such little faith in the prospect of the two of them getting this to work that Chrono would be calling it off already.
“I’ve got used to it you know… the idea of towering over everyone, this sensation…I mean this is amazing, the view, the feats now physically achievable… going back to the mere 181cms (5ft 11) as before just sounds so..so….”
“Boring? Unexciting? Mundane? Ordinary?”
“Yes, yes, yes and yes!”
“Alright then… let’s do it”
And with that, it was Chrono’s turn to be caught off guard as he whipped his head back round so fast to look at Kazuma he could already feel the light headache forming. Was he being serious? The response was so instantaneous. It was hard to tell sometimes with how casual and complacent he could be with his answers, even now, after all this time, Kazuma had a knack of giving off the impression that he didn’t care, even if he didn’t mean for it to come across that way.
“Come again!? Were you being serious just now? You’re not screwing with me are you?”
“Don’t be dumb, I wouldn’t do that to you but if this is what you want then we’ll do it together… it seems like a couple sorta thing to do…”
“Is it? I don’t know how this whole dating thing is meant to work?
“And you think I do?
“Well, yeah, you come across as someone who’s dated before so is this something a couple would do?”
“Ugh… never mind. I guess…? It sounds about right at least?”
“Another question, do the same ideals apply to couples who are several metres tall?”
“How am I even supposed to know that!? Surely the size doesn’t come into it but…fe, feel…ugh..”
“Feelings?” Chrono queried with a quick quirk of the brow
“Yeah… those things…”
“I’m no good with those either…”
The two boys stared at each other, stumped before eventually laughing as the pair leaned in towards each other, foreheads resting on one another as they chuckled on with the gesture of the moment falling apart on the clueless duo. The others were right, they really were terrible with emotions and talking about feeling related stuff was just… a disaster zone.
“Ahh ha ha… thank you, honestly!”
The red headed teen started, grabbing Kazuma’s wrists as he finally stopped chuckling but genuinely smiled at the other, a smile and look that made Kazuma feel the heat return to his cheeks and yet, he soon found himself smiling back; why was that smile of Chrono’s so infectious?
“Maybe emotions and feelings aren’t our thing and maybe were both complete messes who are the kings of bad decisions but this whole dating thing, just another thing we can figure out together!”
Chrono was grinning now, practically beaming with enthusiasm as he shifted his hands off the other boys’ wrist and into his hands, interlocking their fingers.
“Getting bold aren’t we…”
“We have nothing to hide or be ashamed of!”
“How unfortunate the rest don’t quite feel the same way…”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
Chrono asked puzzled as he stared at Kazuma patiently waiting for an answer, only to have the other boy turn away from him; squeezing the others hand a bit more tightly, trying to reassure him.
“Speak to me Kazuma, you can tell me anything…”
“Well... It’s just that I’ve been thinking and on the topic of bad decisions…are you serious about staying giant? Not going to change your mind an hour later?”
Kazuma reluctantly spoke after a couple of minutes, making sure the coast were clear before continuing their conversation.
“Hey! I am not that indecisive, of course I’m serious!”
“Even though the people who we trust, the people who are supposed to be our friends, already see us as freaks to avoid…”
“Kazuma… where is this coming from?”
“Surely you’ve noticed everyone’s change in behaviour towards us, back with Kumi when the tension skyrocketed or when we grew above the balcony suite, they couldn’t hide how fearful they were once we were towering over them or when WE actually had to go and hide when the plane arrived to take everyone else away so WE couldn’t scare the pilot… even Kazumi was uneasy or Taiyou, who said he’d stay to help is different towards us, quieter, more cautious, more observant… distant…”
“You’re over thinking it, this has come as surprise to everyone, you shouldn’t speak about them like that...they’re still our friends…”
“So were in denial are we?”
“I… I just refuse to believe th…”
“Chrono, ask yourself this, if there wasn’t a problem, they wouldn’t be trying so hard to fix us!”
Chrono felt himself physically flinch on that last part, he couldn’t defend it, a part of him agreed, if they trusted them like they said they did, why did they come across so uneasy when they left? Why did it feel like they were so eager to get away from them?
“Arrrgh…! This isn’t fair, so were a bit taller than average, nothing else has changed, were still the same people underneath…it’s not like we’ll suddenly lash out against the city like in some generic monster movie…”
“A bit taller? Sure we crossed that mark a while ago…” Kazuma started, turning to face the red haired teen once more “Chrono, I’m not trying to be harsh or nasty but it’s something you need to consider, are you ok with that?”
“About being pre-judged and gaining a false reputation, where everyone talks about you behind your back…? Isn’t really anything new, it’s just like being in middle school again but I’m not alone this time… I have you… unless… are you trying to say you are actually against the idea?”
“No…Of course not, I’ve already told you, if that is what you really want then I’m in…”
As Kazuma freed his hand and pulled Chrono in, hugging him, arms wrapped round the other teen securely all in one swift movement that Chrono could barely register as he rested his head in the crook of Kazuma’s neck.
“And… what do you think their problem is?”
“Aside a significant size difference…Inferiority complexes perhaps, it’s a typical human nature response…Chrono, were superior now in every way…”
“You honestly believe that? Then… the idea of a cure and reverting us back to normal is their way of having one over on us still…?”
Chrono asked curiously as he gently pushed himself back to look at Kazuma directly in the eyes as the other teen nodded in return. Perhaps it wasn’t as absurd as it initially sounded, there were points in there, they were stronger, bigger, faster…more powerful than all of them combined; even their new size was a type of power trip, one he couldn’t, shouldn’t let go to his head but as Kazuma’s last few words rung up in there and took root, perhaps he was too late?
Inside, Taiyou was oblivious to the outdoor goings on, aside from the fact that the two older boys were up and about due to the occasional slight tremor he could feel as he spoke to Ibuki and Mamoru, filling them in on the past few hours. Even the time just seconds before on the surreal nature of sitting on Kazuma’s toe a toe that was now several times larger than he was…
“It’s good to hear that they’re awake again, tell them congratulations from us.”
Mamoru cheerfully added on at the news of Kazuma and Chrono finally getting together, the two older men on the other screen smirking.
“Well, it certainly did take them long enough; it was painfully obvious to everyone but themselves…”
“Don’t be like that Kouji, young love and all its pure intended awkward mishaps; I’m sure the pair of them will figure it out.”
“You looked troubled, is there something else on your mind Taiyou?”
“Umm…well…it has only been a couple of hours so it may be too soon to say for sure but…”
“But? Has something happened?” Mamoru asked now sounding concerned.
“Go on?” Ibuki questioned, brow raised at this development.
“It’s just that…well… from what I could see it was only subtle difference but I think the size difference is getting to them, now they’ve got together, they don’t seem as bothered about being super tall…”
“That doesn’t sound too surprising so far, I take it that there is more? This is confidential Taiyou, so you can tell us anything.” Mamoru calmly encouraged as Ibuki silently waited for the younger boy to continue.
“Earlier, after Chrono-san’s mishap, to stop him from worrying about the consequences Kazuma-san demolished the fishing harbour without as much as a second thought, submerged everything and the two then simply laughed it off but more so… I don’t think they have any intention on taking the reversal…but rather stay as they are and I’m worried of the backlash that may bring…”
“I see, that is a bit of a problem, we can’t force them but we can’t leave them as they are either…and considering how stubborn those two can be, if that mind set gets set in stone, they’ll be impossible to reason with…” Ibuki sighed, leaning into his hands; they were running out of time fast.
“Then we’ll have no choice but to have a plan b, in case it gets to that stage… Taiyou, you said they were up and about correct?”
“That’s right, Kazuma-san said he had pins and needles and needed to stretch a bit?”
“Show us?”
Ibuki bluntly tacked on as he stared over his hands at the screen; reluctant but finally nodding, Taiyou took his phone and walked out to the balcony, showing the walk from his viewpoint and even before the young teen reached the door, he heard the gasp from the other side.
“Is that a knee? In line with the balcony suite… but that’s…that’s”
“Roughly twenty three metres (75ft) off the ground… which then at a quick estimate makes them about… ninety one…ninety two metres tall (300ft)”
Ibuki calmly added, despite a noticeable furrowed brow, as what he said left a sour taste but he encouraged Taiyou to keep moving on as the Gold Paladin user tilted the camera towards the sky, back towards the ground and then into the sky again as he stared at the two talking giant teens as if this was as casual as any other day.
“They are far larger than we had predicted… Mamoru get Chris back on the line, we are going to need a far stronger solution…”
Outside, the two teens had spent their time casually walking around the island, even if said task only took about a dozen strides a piece. Arriving in front of the balcony suite, Kazuma crouched down to see if Taiyou had returned only to find the kid still inside talking. Looking up at Chrono this time from his crouching position, Kazuma took the moment to get a proper look at him with his new size in context; he’d be lying if he said that it didn’t add to the appeal. There was just something about the way he dwarfed everything nearby that just added to the allure, it made the red head seem impossibly better than anything else could ever hope to be.
“Hey Chrono!” Kazuma casually started as he got to his feet, the red head glancing over curiously “the look suits you as well…”
Chrono just stared at the other teen letting the words sink in, his dusting of red, mixed with a blank baffled expression that quickly changed to a smirk, to a grin and finally a snicker, the words may not have had much context behind them but Chrono still liked what he heard.
“Is that so? How charismatic of you… ” Chrono smirked as he hopped back a few paces, spinning on heel, stopping as he faced Kazuma with a grin “then being size of block of flats adds to the lure for you? Then consider yourself lucky…”
“Is that so?”
“For sure, I’m quite the catch increased tenfold!”
“I doubt any one could catch you now but it seems the Gear Chronicle Singularity could so with some humbling…”
Kazuma smirked as he ran after the red head, grabbing the other teens wrist as he boxed him in once more against the cliff face, the impact dislodging some stone and flattening many more trees as the two simply smirked at each other briefly until something more curious, higher up caught Chrono’s eye, just on the edge, poking round the corner off a ledge was something that seemed familiar despite being a bit small to make out clearly.
“What is it?” Kazuma questioned, noticing the red heads sudden distracted gaze.
“Hang on a sec…”
Squinting to try and get a better look, Chrono gasped as he could make out the array of odd colours on what looked like to be a bush growing across the ledge. Not only one but multiple ones all long it, all holding the same mysterious coloured berries.
“No way! Kazuma check this out…” were the manageable words of a dumbfounded red head.
As both boys now squinted at the tiny bushes in front of them, they were definite these were the same berries from before, which must mean the ones Chrono found earlier more than likely fell from here.
“Just as we were talking about not wanting a reversal, they reappear… is this what they meant by destiny amusing itself?” the dark haired teen questioned.
“Who said that?”
“Never mind, it doesn’t matter right now…”
Standing up right, curious vivid greens met curious steel greys, they both knew what the other was going to ask but neither dared say it, saying it aloud meant admittance that part of them were honestly considering it. Taking a deep breath, Kazuma spoke up first, taking the plunge asking the question that was going through both their minds at all the options that suddenly opened up to them,
“Well…now what should we do?”
