I was having a discussion about comics with
Wielder on the subject of comics, and how to do them. I used to work in the comics industry in the 80's and 90's and thought that rather than writing a huge long letter about how it was done, or, more accurately, my more cinematic approach to comics, it would be better to show, rather than tell. So while in the clinic, waiting for an appointment, I sketched this out on a clipboard. I thought after inking it up, though it might be useful to others out there with in interest in improving their comic work.
I put this up to instruct, but also to generate discussion on the art form.
(This is the unfinished pencils of Page 5, and will be replaced when the inks and lettering are done, but shows you how the previous 4 panel strip was expanded.).

Panel Layout and shape seems to be the next part I may have to do, when comics diverge from cinema, because comics don't move, but still need pacing. But Cinema layouts need to be a place to start, because everyone has watched TV and seen movies. I am coming at this sort of from the opposite direction from Scott McCloud, as not from a direction of a "Reader" so much as a How too from creators. I think I may have created a monster, or at least a series, maybe?
It's funny, in that I was not that good an artist in heh school, but I wanted to be an animator, so I took film study courses, and made small, super 8mm films, Befre started drawing comics for the school paper. I "saw" the film techniques in the comics I bought, the way others could spot clothing brands or cars. Frank Miller's run on Daredevil was only just getting started, so to me it felt and feels natural to treat a comic like a film, or film story board. It was only in college with the intensive drawing classes that I started to get decent as an artist, rather than just a cartoonist and wanna be animator.
