Finally doing some work on getting the color scheme for these guys honed in a bit more. The feathers/quills are kinda rough but I have no idea how to actually make those look decent.
Also should have added some mouth depth but the main focus for this was really just the color of the scales.
Coastal Hranus have selectively bred themselves to be more jewel-toned than their plains ancestors; part of this is to help them blend in with the grasses and water, but the larger part of this is aesthetic. They still have some degree of camouflage, but females with bold coloration are more likely to be picked as mates (they also have the only male dominant society).
Notably, males change color during peak breeding season, often turning bright red at the extremities and gaining pitch black stripes on their limbs to help display.
