This is Ash! They moved to the city Lacom and friends live in and, while looking for a place to live, happened upon Lacom's lab/apartment building. Thinking it was just an apartment building, they went up and checked to see if there were any vacancies. Lacom explained the situation but said they could live in one of the non-converted rooms if they took care of it and stayed out of her lab, which Ash accepted.

They're a bit shy and a bit self-conscious, but Tess is helping them out of their shell a bit.
