As we made our way to Kaitlyn’s house, Elise and I wracked our brains wondering what could have happened to our friend. A seemingly permanently plugged toilet again? Cooked the spaghetti for too long and burnt it? Kaitlyn opening up a new comic Vanessa wanted to keep in mint condition? Our thoughts were getting carried away, but with how vague she was we really didn’t have much to work with, so our imaginations just ran wild.
We finally arrived there at 9:26 pm, a five minute drive from our place. As we pulled up into the driveway for the small uninteresting house, we noticed that there was no police or anything. I breathed a sigh of relief. It mustn’t have been anything serious, or else they should have been there by now.
We walked up to the door and rang the doorbell. In a few seconds, it opened up, revealing our black, long haired friend with bangs, Vanessa. Most days she looked like she was ready to start ranting about some societal issue or problems with the neighbours. But tonight, she actually looked worried. Well, a bit worried. She looked pretty calm, but still concerned about something.
“What happened?” I asked.
“It’s pretty crazy,” Vanessa replied. “We’re okay, ish. Like, no one’s hurt, but Kaitlyn is, well... Just come and see for yourself.”
Elise and I looked at one another, and entered in. Walking through the left doorway into the small living room they had, we looked to our left and saw Kaitlyn sitting on their couch. Upon first glance, she actually looked okay. Like… nothing serious at first. Except for the two large rabbit ears that hung from the sides of her head.
“Woah!” Elise exclaimed as she saw the ears.
“What happened?” I asked as I looked her over. She merely looked at me with puppy-dog eyes from under her shoulder-length blond hair in the quick second I looked at her. Aside from the rabbit ears she had, her feet were huge now, sporting four large toes, as if they were part rabbit. Trailing up her grey sweatpants up to her green sweatshirt, I then noticed something odd. A third breast between her other two contributed to the protrusion of her bust, which also seemed to have grown a cup or two in size.
Kaitlyn sighed, as her eyes looked between me, Elise, and the space in front of her. “I was walking back home from getting some groceries, when I heard someone. I looked behind me and it was just another woman, with a big dark coat on and dark glasses, about twenty feet behind me. We both just kept walking, but by the time I got to the house, she had disappeared. Like, no more footsteps or anything.”
“Was it someone from the area, you think?” I asked, curious about who this person might be.
Kaitlyn shook her head. “No, I hadn’t seen anyone like that before, especially with a dark coat like that, or wearing what looked like sunglasses.”
“Why the heck would someone even wear sunglasses at night?” Vanessa scoffed, leaning on the edge of the doorway behind us.
“Anyway,” Kaitlyn continued, “so I was fumbling for my keys, before putting the grocery bag down to make things easier, when I felt something strike me. Like a puff of air, a gust, that blew into my backside. That’s when I felt… these respective areas of my body tingle.” She motioned to her ears, breasts, and feet. “And then it happened. No pain or anything, just… felt… really weird, my flesh morphing into… this.” She shuddered as she recalled the experience.
“Maybe that woman had something to do with this,” Elise suggested. “Like some sort of magic user.”
My heart pumped irregularly for a moment when I heard Elise say that.
“Just, I don’t get why she did this,” Kaitlyn muttered, her voice quivering with mild fear and annoyance.
“Well,” Vanessa started, “if they CAN use magic, at least they didn’t get rid of your limbs or something. Like, you are pretty normal, for the most part.”
“I guess you’re right,” Kaitlyn said.
“Yeah, at least you seem to be mostly fine overall,” I said, in agreement with Vanessa. If this person can use magic to just change people like this, we’re lucky they left Kaitlyn mostly normal in form. “Did you call the authorities yet?”
Kaitlyn nodded. “The police should be on their way.”
Just as she said that, we heard the sirens grow in the distance. When the police arrived, Kaitlyn told them the same story she told us. While Elise and I waited in the kitchen, Vanessa returned upstairs to work on some of her coursework. What we were figuring was happening frightened me, but also intrigued me. I had never heard or witnessed something like this happening in modern times. This was the sort of thing that only happened in TV shows or was described in history books of ages long past. I’m just thankful that Kaitlyn was okay.
Then we heard a scream from upstairs. Vanessa!

PS. Sorry for the delay, especially leaving everyone hanging wondering just what happened to Kaitlyn. I'm still busy getting things figured out over here, but I think the next few posts should come a bit quicker.
