Yes thet do hehe but in my guide the Ring of the Beast is silver with 2 Rubies while The Ring of the Erudite is Gold with 2 Diamonds. But could be either. But does Otis use magic cause if he doesn't you may want to switch though. Cause the Ring of the Beast gives you a 100 point boost to health with a 20 point boost to claw attacks in Vampire Lord form just thought you should know hehe ^^
http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/....._Ring_(Skyrim) its in the game for a reason. if the player doesnt wanna be a werewolf permanently they can use the ring. its been a thing since morrowind. (wheres its given to you if you dont wanna be a werewolf)
It's the Ring of Hircine.
And yes, it turns people into werewolves.
The ring was designed so that if you were not a werewolf already, and wanted to turn into one regardless, you use the ring instead of getting the bite.
This has been a feature of Hircine's Ring since the Bloodmoon DLC for Morrowind, everyone knows this.

But that's only if it's "cursed." After siding with Singing and killing all of the hunters, and reuniting with Hircine again after leaving the cave, he removes the curse from the ring, making it completely useless for anyone who's NOT a werewolf.
During the quest where you obtain it, I guess you could say that you're a werewolf once having the "Cursed Ring of Hircine." Then you wouldn't have to do the Companions' quest line to officially obtain lycanthropy. You'd probably leave the quest unfinished and let the 10% chance of changing into a werewolf take its toll.
