Early character design for the Mad Max style alternate universe for some of my characters.

Jehlani is the leader of a small wasteland community called Drum town, which is built around a small restored oil field, as such the town's main export and economic strength is fuel made from the oil as well a bio fuel and alcohol from their crops. They even have some working solar panels and batteries that were scavenged from long abandoned cities beyond the horizon.

While this allowed Drum Town to flourish through trade, it also made them a target for raider gangs who would love to get their hands on a steady fuel supply. The town itself is pretty well defended with sturdy walls, lookout towers and two gated outer walls, with each gatehouse having at least two flamethrower turrets and the iron cladding on the walls can be electrified if needed to stop attackers from scaling the walls and trenches to prevent vehicles ramming the walls. However all this meant nothing when they were betrayed from within by a small group that took out the guards and let the raiders inside the wall. The lions wasted no time in capturing Jehlani's husband and herdmates and breaking their lineage by killing her husband and the mare's that were pregnant at the time as well as her son.

The community suffered under the rule of the lions, probably none more so than Jehlani who was kept as some sort of trophy for the leader of the raider group who took pleasure in beatign and torturing her and occasionally would publically humiliate her to demoralize the townspeople. Then one day Jehlani tried to rebel and assassinate the leader but unfortunately her attempt failed and as an example the raider leader severed her arm and had it served to him in front of the entire townsfolk. Needless to say this took any fight they might have left out of them. It wasn't untill years later when a wandering band of bikers arrived who were looking for a fight with the raider boss that the town was finally liberated from the lions. However nobody was sure at first of there was any reason to celebrate as their liberators turned out to be hyenas who often were even more cruel and ruthless than the lions.

Turned oout these hyenes however were an exception as they were outcasts and they were just happy to have a new place to settle...Ofcourse the abundant fuel supply was a major bonus for them so they struck a deal with the twonspeople, protection in return for a full tank of fuel whenever they needed it and a place to crash. The agreement has worked well for the town thus far and even the hyenas as their numbers increased with more outcast hyenas joining them. Meanwhile Jehlani has taken up the mantle of leadership for Drum Town again, which has been difficult due to her injuries and not having a mate or much of a herd left to support her. Despite the difficulties she has done her best for the town and bring it back to it's former prosperity and most of the townsfolk support her again, but there are still quite a few who blame her for the misfortune that befell the town years ago.
