Everyone has a home wither it is a nest, a den, a cave or a hole. However those places are just places of shelter they are not really a home. Not unless your heart resides there. My heart resided in the mountains for a long time. And in truth it still does to a degree. All these fond memories make my heart warm. Though not all of them are fond but most were.
I should skip ahead in my story a few months. After all you do not want to hear about every time I ate, pooped, and slept. Which is pretty much all I did beside that nest. Like any any newborn babe.
Theos opened his eyes to see a familiar green eye above him. He looked up questioningly and she seemed to smile.
"Oh how you've grown I do believe I see teeth and legs," she said causing Theos to cock his head. He couldn't really see himself except in her eye and he looked the same to himself though a bit bigger.
Theos started to move and felt the extensions to his body. He couldn't see them but he began moving them. They gripped at the ground in front of him and pulled him forward. He didn't understand it and he did it again and again. Until he realized it was much faster than just sliding around. That was when he opened his mouth in a wide smile his teeth showing Once he realized he had a mouth he opened it again and again questioningly his tongue running over his teeth. For the first time in my life I had a mouth and legs. More like flippers really I later realized after looking in a puddle. It felt so odd then but after that day I stopped thinking about it really.
The bird chuckled at Theos. "You have a mouth now. So can you speak," she asked her head coming in line with his body.
"I.....I," Theos stuttered surprising himself with his own voice. He could talk! Theos stared at the ground a moment and she waited patiently. "I....I...can," he finally stuttered out quietly.
"Good, you have grown young one. Now that you can talk you can start learning to survive. My own hatchlings are getting to that point as well. You are welcome to observe but we won't teach you directly," she said straightening.
Theos nodded and she disappeared into the nest. The sounds of her children ringing out over the rim. She lifted them out one by one til they were all outside and they looked to him rather oddly huddling together and staring. They were all little round puff balls. Three pink ones with red feathers on their head. And two brown ones with eyebrows and they had feet.
"Come children," the red bird spoke and started walking away. Theos no longer just looking at the family realized many birds were leading their young ones away from the nest. He followed along behind wondering what was going on.
The adults slowly took flight and left their children on a path. They children chirped protests at being left behind. Several rushing down the path to follow while others looked around confused. They all kept moving though down that path questioningly.
"So what are you," said one of the brown birds from the nest. She slowed down to walk beside him. Her voice a bit high pitched.
"I....I don't know" Theos responded sheepishly.
"We all know what we are. You just sort of feel it. I'm a Pinamon for example. The name is Chi," she said smiling. Her words made Theos think. And think i did. There was a word one I had never heard before in the back of my mind. Cragmon that was what I was. Like the very crags of rocks I was born in. It was oddly fitting and left me wondering if all my names would be that of the earth itself.
"Cragmon," Theos finally said. It was the only word that came to mind.
"I've never heard of your kind before," Chi said thoughtfully. "Do you have a name," her question made him shake his head. "Everyone needs a name! We'll just have to find you one," Chi said smiling.
Theos wasn't sure if that was how it worked but he smiled just the same. A screech from above making all of them look up. The children looked between themselves each asking the other what was going on. Dozens shaking there bodies with no answers to go by. Suddenly the sun disappeared and a shadow overcame the mountain. Stretching as far as their tiny bodies could see. They all started shaking in fear. Chi running to her siblings to huddle with them.
Theos shrank himself as much as he could practically going flat. Pieces of pebbles fell in front of them and one large shining brown eye looked at them. Its eye was larger than any of their parents alone. A single wing beat went a ferocious gust through the mountain making it shake and howl. Several of the children getting blown up against the cliff. Cries for their parents rang in these ears as the wind eventually died.
Suddenly the parents came swooping in grabbing the children in each talon and flying off with them. Wide eyes greeted each of the parents as they swooped in. Theos watched as they disappeared out of sight above the giant digimon overhead. One of the pink feathered five from the nest he had resided beside was left. He raced over to him huddling close without touching him.
A golden form swooped in picking them up. Theos stomach lurched as the ground gave away. He squished in his talon but didn't fall through. His core was solid enough to prevent that. It didn't stop him from feeling like he would throw up. As the shadow broke away Theos looked up. He could see forever! He was in awe at the mountainous landscape and the tan colored sand far way. However nothing was more amazing than what sat on the back of the giant gliding bird. A jungle of greenery that he had never even imagined lay upon its back. The golden bird dropped them on the back of the giant bird and flew off leaving them alone with the other children.
Theos looked back. The parents were slowly leaving til only a few remained to fly with the giant bird. Its wings giving them an updraft to glide on with every beat. Theos looked to the pink digimon beside him questioningly.
"That was the first time.....I have ever flown.....it was amazing," he said excitedly looking around for his siblings which came over excitedly. They were all hopping in enjoyment. Theos had to admit when he had stopped feeling like he was going to fall or lose his stomach it had been amazing. There was only one lingering thought on his mind afterwards however. What was going on?
"Gather around children," Theos gaze went to a beautiful woman. A pink crown set upon her head and vines billowed behind her like a cape. Her legs and arms looking like golden tree trunks. She revealed her palms and knelt down so she didn't intimidate the more fearful children of the group.
"We are Ceresmon," she spoke softly. "Your parents have left you here so that you may learn to survive and fly. The only way off is to fly back down to your mountain. There is plenty of food here but you must get it yourselves. Do not worry of falling off no matter what someone will catch you. Just try and enjoy your stay here," she smiled sweetly her gaze slowly going to Theos. At that time i had no idea what she was thinking. She smiled at me and stood up. She didn't talk to me or acknowledge that i was different from the rest. I didn't know what to think of her she seemed kind. However i never realized she knew what I was until much later.
She stood up and walked away from them. The young birds talking between each other questioningly.
"My mom told me it took her three years to return to the mountain. I had no idea she meant this," one said earning sounds of surprise. The gossiping continued.
"I wonder if your kind even learns to fly," Chi said approaching him. Theos shrugged and looked to her siblings as they also approached.
"These are my brothers and sister," Chi said motioning to them. "Eric, Eve, and Chase are the poromon," she said motioning to the pink ones. "And that is Neo," she said motioning to the other pinamon. "We should all watch each others backs," Chi said smiling earning a few nods. Chase was the one Theos had rode up with and he gave Theos a hearty smile.
"Okay," Theos said sheepishly.
"Great," Chi said happily. "First thing is first we should make our own nest to sleep in," Chi said racing for the forest. They all followed her lead. Chi is a natural born leader. She was kind but saucy just like her mother. I fell for her in time as she started to bring me out of my shell. However once a bird is grounded their lives fade quickly. We were good friends though. She kept us safe upon that island in the sky. Which she had to do a lot. That is for another time however young one. For now you should sleep and dream of flying on an island paradise in the sky.
