I'm not so great with grasshoppers, especially not nymphs.

But, I'm going to make a somewhat educated guess and go with the Carolina Grasshopper.

We're in WI, so that seems a little unlikely @_@

Yep, that's it! We have zillions of 'em. Some of ours get orangish, reddish or whitish stripes on the wings instead of yellow, though; some quick research would seem to indicate that coloration varies based on soil quality, and the overall coloration varies as well, so I guess that's an aspect of the overall variation?

I imagine variations in colorform are possible, or you are seeing other species.

I'm not the best with grasshoppers. Spiders are my best subject.

We get grasshopper swarms every few years or so, but very rarely to I see babies!
