That's a pretty sensible limitation as such an artifact likely would produce frequencies and modulations that standard audio equipment was never designed to produce. That would be even more true with hearing aids as they aren't even designed to reproduce sound accurately, just to shift audio frequencies around those the user is deaf to. Limitations of magic bised in reality certainly can be fun plot devices.
