I'm doing a personalized Inktober challenge with a friend, basically the same rules as regular Inktober but with our own prompts. Today's prompt is designing a character!
I will not be uploading all the drawings here, because some of them are not what this audience is interested in (non-animal art). I will be uploading all animal-themed prompts to FurAffinity, but you can find the full challenge on my Twitter or on my DeviantArt!
It's already the second day, and this one had the prompt to design a character! There were a few animals I couldn't decide between, among them a hare and a donkey, so I made a character who is... both. Meet Riley!
I don't have any good coloured markers at home, so I had to resort to pencils for the colouring - not very ink-like, but I didn't really have any other options ^^; But hey, since all the lines are ink... Still counts. Apologies for the sloppy lines, this took longer than expected and I don't usually design characters traditionally. I hope I can make her a digital colour sheet sometime so her colours and markings are more clear, I probably won't redraw this entire sheet digitally because it's a lot of work! It did give me a good sense of what the character is like, though.
But yea! I'm in love with her. I love equines and lagomorphs. Glad to have a character like this now!

I am not sure if you are trying to be as accurate as you can or are using artistic license. If you are trying to be accurate you might want to make the neck shorter and thicker. Compared to horses donkeys have short and thick heads and necks. If you are just using artistic license to make what you like forget that I said anything.
Neat idea! ^_^ Both of her forms are very cute. And hey, she doesn't even need to make much adjustment for differing ear lengths. Well, I guess differing ear-to-body length ratios would be the bigger issue, so never mind.
I'm curious. Are those seeds of the magical quick-growing (bordering on instant) variety, or do they take time more on the order of typical plants to sprout?

Yea, that's true! xD
That's actually a really good question! I was thinking it grows faster than a regular plant, but it can still take a couple hours to a day (in bad circumstances) to grow, and she'd probably have to defend the plant from other herbivores, because even if it won't make them transform, she can't eat if it they just chomp up the entire plant.
So not the most efficient form change!

Thanks for the answer! I love interesting little quirks for characters to work around with their abilities.
And true, it'd be little help for changing at a moment's notice, but I guess efficiency's all relative. It's way more efficient than waiting for a donkey to turn into a hare or vice versa on her own.
Also, apparently I didn't say so before: nice job on those really great expressions, especially those on the two bottom-most donk faces. ^__^
