Yeah... roughly 38 years ago today, Scrappy Doo made his debut in the Scooby Do franchise... and what a fun few decades that was for him....
Roughly 10 years of boosting the popularity and audience for the franchise that was loosing ground...
Another 10 years being shelf from the franchise as it tried to "refresh" itself while Scrappy's popularity started to turn toxic
ANOTHER 10 years where both WB and the Scooby franchise pretty much gave into hate and pretty much take their own stabs at the character rather than trying reinvent him like they did with the rest of the gang, and his only appearances around this time is that POS depiction of himself in the the live action movie as well as being an angry hasbeen in the CN bumpers...
And pretty much looks like another 10 years where outside of a comic book series that barely has anything to do with Scooby Doo... Scrappy is pretty much forgotten overall... and would only be brought back just to be either a heel or a butt of a single joke or punchline....
Yeah... 10 years of being there for his Uncle and friends... Scrappy is pretty much gotten so much scorn and ridicule, mostly due being an loud and over enthusiastic little kid, that even though there IS a small group of people saying he wasn't that bad... alot of people still think he was the worst thing in the franchise and are happy he is gone... while creators of the show pretty much are okay taking shots at him... and producers and suit try to keep him away from the franchise far away, such as trying NOT to show or mention in ANYTHING he is in without his name in the title, cause they dare not risk loosing money because of him... you know, AFTER they over milked his popularity when he was a cash cow to them...
And while thinking of that... I wonder... where is he now?
There is no way he would still in work, even in game or talk shows like most wash out celebrities... and considering how much up kid actors can be when they are popular and that popularity fades... as well as assuming that he was "disowned' by the Gang (there has been several times both in and out of cannon), as well as all the contract and royalty money he was entitled to has run out... Scrappy would pretty much be living as a homeless stray dog... living in a junkyard... filled with discarded Hollywood props and merch, hence why he is in the "other" Mystery Machine and other junk... mostly consisting his name and face...
And today on his birthday, he managed to save enough money for a cupcake, a candle, and a malt drink (from his first scene appearance with the gang), and by the weak warm light of his birthday candle... Scrappy takes a look at the only picture of him with the gang... just thinking of the good times he used to have with them... though he recently started to have doubts that even the great times he had with his "family" were even good to them, as it been years since they talked... and he has seen them "swear" to never talk about him...
So yeah... Happy Birthday, Scrappy Doo... where every you are... and just known, for better or worst of it all... you were and STILL part of the Gang... and to quote MLP, you are not flawless, you're work in progress...
I was hoping to get this fully colored, as I drew this MONTHS ago, but I could never find the time or focus to ink and color this, and the last few weeks with hurricanes, work, and chores has been keeping me extra busy.... so I might as well just post the sketch of it all... it is more emotional piece anyway... so lacking details are minor problems if I can get the emotional response overall.
