Second try; changed the logo version to fit a bit better, and added a backdrop to bring the cards out a bit more.
This is sort of a customized/reskinned version of the MLP:FIM trading card template, original can be found here:
https://www.deviantart.com/art/MLP-.....Base-322634021
Basic idea for this was to have this be "another version" a bit like how MTG and other card series things switch up their art a bit for specific iterations: in this case a more "steampunk" color pallet and art-style to fit the more "adventurous" tone I want to give these stories when I finally get a good arc mapped out.
Did use two pieces of clipart: the MLP logo in upper left of the front, as well as the gears opposite as those would have been an absolute nightmare to do by hand.
Filled-out cards for the MLP:FIC cast to come soon (hopefully)
Suggestions welcome.

Nice. I'm currently working on my own template of the MLP trading cards. ^^
I like what you're going with the design. It's like machinery with a 1880s look. ^^
I can help you with this template, if you like. ^^ /)
The brown part is metal, correct? I think wood could work, too.
And is that the Steam logo, or is it a coincidence?

Hehe; thanks a lot, glad someone likes these; need to get back to them... I'm always happy to have feedback/help.
Yeah: the general look/vibe I was going for with these was a steampunk/1800s machinery vibe: with the dark brown bits being wood, the brass bits metal, and the lighter (front portrait, info panel and back portrait) sort of being "parchment" or weathered paper. The inspiration being that the little cast I created (thanks for the faves by the way) have a more steampunk/adventure vibe, most of all the Twilight analog being Pocket Watch; an inventor/detective pony.
As for that little widget: yeah it was meant to just be random machinery (the bits on the front of the card being pipes), but it did come out looking like the steam logo... which is probably appropriate given that that logo itself is derived from a part in a locomotive's drive system: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/8yRVMnPJmdQ/.....resdefault.jpg

GO for it if you feel like it: the current one I have is actually a layered flash file (to make insertion of images easier), so not sure I could give you the original.
The color template:
- Darkest brown (the "signs where the name goes" - Varnished/polished wood
- Dark brown (The main backing) - Slightly rougher/lighter wood
- Brass (The pipes on the front, gears, and various widgets on the back) - metal
- The lighter gold (used for all the edgeing to things) - Was also supposed to be metal and designed to make the various elements tand out from one another
- The off-white (the "blank" areas for thef ront picture, text and back picture and cutiemark) - Were designed to have the parchment feel
I could make a color guide of the ones I used if that'd help: sorry, I'm bad at coding the color text thing in FA.

A lot of the inspirationf or this sort of came from a combination of Sherlock Homes, Fallen London, Rise of Legends, and this intro:

So yeah: very much a "steampunk" look.

I see. ^^
Do you mind if I make a few liberties to the design?
Like, I think the Cutie Mark, Pony Type, Occupation, and Location should be metal plaques. And the name box should be wooden plaques. Does that sound good to you?
Also, for other template I'm working on, this is what I got so far. Also, I made a few alternate type icons. [LINK] What do you think? :3
The alicorn on wasn't custom, BTW. It's on this one.

Go for it; and that was sort of what I was going for initially: sort of why the name plates are the shape they are: trying to be evokative of old signs and so forth. Metal plaques fit perfectly witht hat in mind.
As for your design: ooh; very cool re-imagining: like the crystal one as it fits with the "minimalist" look of the original ones I think.

Your steampunk-themed template would be perfect for a pegasus OC of mine, Wingnut. He's a mechanic. In my story, he's from the Pre-Equestrian Era, and the tech from that time has the steampunk/1880's look.
You impressed with I got so far with the original template? Everything you saw was made 100% from scratch in Photoshop using shapes and paths. To get as accurate as possible, I used this as a guide.
I'm gonna see if I can do the same with the MLP CCG cards. ^^

Hehe ooh awesome: He'd probably get on well with my own Pocket Watch then.

Yeah: you did a great job; way better than my try at it here anyway: most of my art is done in Flash; which is why it tends to be quite "flat" in terms of shading and so forth. That's the same card template I based this one on actually.

Here's what I have so far for the front. What do you think?
What's that light brown rectangle on the lower right of the front, anyways?

Hm... uh; the upper right "portrait head" part of the back was sort of meant to be a magnifying-glass/lens over some parchment... the far bottom right of it is just meant to be a sort of control panel (some levers and lights and so forth).; was trying to fill the dead space while sticking to the theme.
