Part 2 of yesterday's poem.
I've noticed that with my new poetry I take much longer to write. I take my time, plan out each line carefully, sometimes erasing whole stanzas and starting from scratch. They've felt more personal than before, and I like it. When I started writing in high school, it was all garbage. Meaningless rhymes just poured out of me, with no concise story or deeper meaning. Now, I try to give every line a purpose and take every opportunity to employ different poetic techniques. I still consider myself amateur at best, because I completely ignore the counting of syllables, which I would assume would be a big no-no in the literary community. I dunno, I write what feels right. Someday I'll work up the courage to read them in front of an audience.
