Trail Trouble 2 Page 5 (commission)
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
After way too much delay comes the next installment of Trail Trouble. When we last left the hapless Zak, he had just taken a half-backwards somersault into the sidewalk courtesy of a patch of ice and his insistence on wearing a pair of uwabaki (Japanese canvas+rubber school shoes intended for indoor wear) over a practical pair of winter footwear. He now has to get to school somehow since his mishap caused him to miss the last bus that would get him there on time. It seems however the bus has to take a detour arond a local park to get there, while Zak can simply cut straight across. But this comic wouldn't be called "Trail Trouble" if it was that simple.
Technical:
A change in tactics in this comic was the use of free/open source digital-painting application Krita over Micrografx Picture Publisher (MPP). Chief advantage here is the ability to perform canvas rotatation while inking and coloring these entries. Also the lack of text means Krita's chief limitation (half-baked text tools) isn't a factor, whereas Tropic Fun 101 went to Clip Studio Paint owing to the amount of text there. Due to the long delay between penciling and inks, I upgraded this page by replacing the first panel where Zak recovers his shoe with a better-drawn version. You'll eventually see the original version in a future 'weekly ink & pencil" post.
Pencil on bristol, inked and colored with Krita 3.1.3 (MPP was used to add signature text), 9 layers, 16mb at original size (Krita .KRA format)
