Commission for  backlash

For those unfamiliar with backlash's two main characters, let me fill you in. Both Zak and his sister Kira have something of a bad-luck fairy following them around all the time, in the form of their always losing their shoes to some random minor calamity. In the first Trail Trouble Kira lost a pair of ballet flats at a muddy stream crossing deep in a public park, kind of like this scene but nowhere near as deep. In this installment, it's Zak's turn in the barrel*. Those shoes he's wearing are called uwabaki, a canvas-and-rubber "indoor shoe" most often depicted on Japanese grade-schoolers during classes in manga/anime. How Zak managed to get ahold of a pair and why he thinks they're appropriate for outdoor use is an exercise left to the viewer.
