The dark part behind it is the molt. The white is the actual roach. The white color will fade as its body hardens, and it will be the same color as the molt within hours.
I don't get why people think it's so weird or gross, just because they're not used to seeing this aspect of nature. To me it's just as gross (if not more gross) how WE shed. *shrug*

wow, ive never seen an insect shortly after throwing away its mold^^ nice!
but yeah, it looks a little weird and maybe even a little gross but i think thats only because its unusual to see something like that. and i bet for people who think that bugs are gross a white and soft bug is even more gross X3
