And, the final page! Looks like Nym has done this many times before, her garden is becoming a lush memorial to the small souls lost to spring.
Spring is a time of awakening, of new life, but also of death. Every year around this time I find many animals whose lives were lost to the turbulence of the season; birds, snakes, raccoons, occasionally feral cats. With each find, I do my best to honor their small sacrifices. I’d like to imagine Nym would do the same, encouraging the growth that can come with each death.

I think the buried bird will nurture the seeds in the grounds. The seeds will grow into plants. The small bugs will be drawn to the plants. The mother birds will gather the bugs to feed her chick. The nourished chick will grow up to be a lovely bird, just like the one Nym is mourning. So, in that way, the bird will live again.
