An outstanding sketch of one of my most recent characters, Void. Void is a, well, his backstory is quite complicated. He's essentially a spiritual guardian, government leader, and military commander of my fictional world & story of furries, Mythic Eternity.
With a body that is essentially made of "black hole / space itself" (it's confusing), he is always in a suit of power armor to enhance his combat skills and prevent the universe from imploding on him. Though somewhere inside, he still technically counts as some sort of an avian creature.
If you've seen my digital portrait of this guy and was wondering why I kept complaining about my art style not translating into a digital form very well.. I'm sure you know what I mean now. LOOK AT THAT DETAIL! I love it!! Sure, it might not be the next mona lisa, and isn't really that great compared to a lot of art on this site. But still, I found it impressive because it had been a long time since I had drawn traditionally, and I pick up my pencil and then this magic happens. Even more interesting is that this was my first real visualization of this character, as I've never really taken the time to draw him before I made this. I think it turned out great.
He's the kind of character you see and can immediately tell he's important. He's a knight, a general, a leader. Not only was his armor inspired by historical warriors such as knights and samurai, but was also inspired by a lot of my favorite sci-fi stores such as Halo, Metroid, or the stage-play rock band Starset.
His over-all concept was also inspired by one of my favorite native american symbols, the Thunderbird. Which is VERY fitting for him as a guardian of space and as a leader figure, as one of the symbol's many meanings is about the belief in existence of other worlds, or messages from the divines. And birds such as eagles where typically seen as symbolic in leadership and authority, so his species as a bird-type creature is all the more fitting paired with his roots of inspiration.
The colors are supposed to be plated dark blue, details of dark grey, and light up parts of sky blue. If you have seen my digital portrait of him than you should probably know how this is supposed to look in color.
1 of 7 pencil sketches I made in a brand new sketch book I got while on vacation a few months ago. It took me forever to optimize my new phone for importing the original photo to my pc for cropping & editing. It's a bit late.
Character belongs to me.
