Originally the species I created, known as the 'fauxbird', was originally known as 'foxbird'- which began as a dragon/bird/fox hybrid circa 1987. They had long necks, breathed fire, and were kleptomaniacs. I have drawings surviving from those days, boxed somewhere in storage.

Time went on, their design changed. The neck shortened after I had 'the dream' way back in '88, and the feathers weren't no longer feathers, but weird thin pangolin scale things. Fauxbird means simply 'fake bird', because of ignorance and it is I suppose a 'fake bird', since it's not of the typical avian type. But they still have the ability to lay eggs.

Fast forward to 'sorta today', after fleshing out the species and writing, I've decided to make said species more pangolin-like with a pinch of monotreme (egg laying mammal). Yep, my main character Rasheeda is undergoing a major design change, though the colors will stay the same I think. No more common-canine-hybrid-with-whatever design. More to come.
