Thursday evening, it was cool out and had rained. I delivered to a house and gave the customer their pre-paid order, As I was leaving I noticed this blotch of orange that was coiled up under a shrub that wasn't natural.
And that was this corn snake. A female, missing about 2-3 inches off her tail . Overall, about 3 feet long.
I had a backpack in my trunk and zipped her up inside, and after work, placed her in a spare terrarium and gave her a good look over. She's clearly a hybrid, her pink eyes a dead giveaway of somebodies breeding program. Whether or not she's somebodies escaped pet, or some student who graduated college or graduating this week letting her go thinking she'll be fine.
Friday I obtained a hot rock for her, new water dish and she's been delightfully calm, next week I'll get her a mouse. Nice thing is, now I have a secondary place to dispose of intruder voles and mice inside my apartment.
Due to her coloration, I've named her Ginger.

I've always had dogs, birds and reptiles as pets, even a tarantula as a pet once. Reptiles have their own personalities, I've had iguanas that behaved just like cats, sans the litterbox BS and clawing of furniture. I had one that loved to watch TV, was a big fan of Hill Street Blues. And NOVA on PBS, especially nature shows.
Plus, unlike dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, ferrets, rats, mice, chinchillas and in some cases birds, reptiles have no known allergens.

I have a snake. Easy keepers. They do not need the UV light the lizards do. Heat like any reptile. She is about three foot? Mice will do. Get her a hide box as well. A guinea pig house works ever even a cheap plastic bowl with a hole in it. Indoor-outdoor carpet is an idea underlayment, easy to clean.
Pericles B. Python is a 5 foot ball python I have had since 1990.

Oh I've had snakes for decades and know all the tricks, my ex still has my ball python and bull snake, though she has the room I seriously lack.
Though I have newspaper as her strata, easier to replace and keeps things cleaner. Last night she burrowed behind my back on the couch while I watched the Coka Cola 600.

True, BUT, unlike a fur bearing animal. have no dander to cause allergens. Your average reptile can be housed and kept without people sneezing their heads off. Unless the owner is an absolute slob and not clean up after their pet craps, the smell is almost negligible. Least its not like a catbox.
Plus I had a Savannah Monitor lizard that was 4 feet long that actually attacked a burglar, seriously biting the hell out of him. Yet the lizard roamed the house freely, knew my family and friends, never bit them, and loved to hunt mice and rats. Plus he often slept wedged between me and my wife in bed, or curled up in a dog bed that he claimed as his from one of our dogs. And he never bit the dogs.
Awww, she's adorable! I'm glad she's found a good home, so many people these days just dump unwanted pets and go about their lives. It's especially bad with exotic pets like her, as it can ruin whatever ecosystem they're dumped in. Most of these people don't understand, when they order an exotic pet from some other state (or even some other country) it's not natural to their area, so when they release it they're essentially releasing something that has no natural predators in that area, which can totally wreck the ecology. Not to mention it's highly illegal, since they're releasing an invasive species, and they could be faced with some pretty stiff fines and/or significant jail time. As, the last time I looked, releasing an invasive species is considered a felony.
Too bad the government didn't see it that way with the assholes that brought in Africanized Honey Bees. I wonder why? ...oh, yeah, it was the Government that brought them in. >.<

We had a little corn snake come in with a shipment of car computers at a place I used to work at. Not sure where it was hiding but a guy picked up the part where the snake was coiled and put it in a stack without noticing it... until he set it down. We got the resident snake guy to release it.
