Growing up she was bullied by other inklings because of what she was. Everytime they saw her they knew she was an octoling and told her to go back to where she came from since they didn't like her kind. But she was only half of that. Her Dad being an octoling and her Mom and inkling. So as she grew up she decided to grow her hair out so that it would cover her face. That way no one would know what she was and guess what they all were dumb enough that it actually works. She has quite a few friends some says she mute but she isn't. She is always talked over by others so they never know what she sounds like. Most also thinks shes a guy which makes her laughs at times.
