Blinking icon for
of their character!
Did an experiment and drew the icon with SAI, animated it with Easy GIF Animator (which has better color variety than Flash's GIFs) but the file sizes can be a lot bigger because of that...so only SUPER simple stuff like blinking can be done...otherwise the file size goes way over the 50KB limit on FurAffinity.

Flash all the way for me, I now do a test run of the animation before fleshing out details for that reason. Always mo colours mo problems though, on occasion I've used photoshop to edit them down but it's something I really loathe doing. I assume BG animation is much easier since elements can be cut or shortened, but still - the amount of times I've had to cut an icon size in half (or more) is disheartening ;v;
Tell me about it -_- I've had special requests from people and tried to work it out but OOPS the file size is too big...so then I start by cutting frames, limiting colors etc... and by the end it's just...it's not the same as what I first created. It's a bummer. BUT I do the best I can with what I got...and FA's poopy icon size limit. Even just a LITTLE more size allowance would make a huge difference. The number of icons that end up being just a few KB above the limit is frustrating.
EDIT: yeah PS is a pain in the butt and my computer hates it because the program is so ridiculously big.

Haha, it can be! Some of my icons are animated in pieces that can be moved with very small frame-by-frame additions (to avoid looking too stiff) but then some of them are completely frame-by-frame (or the animated portions are, anyway). Luckily most of the icons I do are simple enough and any complex animations I DO do are rendered as Flash files and not GIF lol...no color issues with that, at least (though a lot of complaints from people who browse on their phones).
