So this is my year 1 CAD project, involving the use of a 3D printer and software to design, build and assemble a mono audio amplifier, including designing the PCB and the box, assembling both and testing the circuit.
Around the time of box design, I was having a moderate fascination with Ancient Greek history (induced in no part by Many A True Nerd's Rome Total War lets play he was doing at the time... *cough*).
The original design had a square spire at the top and blocks in each corner. However, due to limitations of 3D printing, that had to be scrapped and simplified, generating this. It's not quite what I wanted it to be, but I still kinda like it. I'm arguing now that it's slightly more like the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, but either way, it's modelled on wonders of the ancient world. At some point I might post a picture of what the box was originally going to look like, because it's worthy of an album cover if nothing else.
The box was designed in this thing called OpenSCAD (no, not "scat") which uses coding to create such a design. One of the parts about trying to code it was that circles were difficult to make, and this entire thing is made almost entirely of squares within squares within squares.
The circuit itself is capable of amplifying an MP3 or anything else running on a 3.5mm jack, sadly not including my guitar, but indeed including my stylophone. But then again, it's a crappy mono speaker.
