A daughter sacrifices, Part 1
For Lorvianne
ByDragonAndWolfJust a few months after Lovianne’s 19th birthday she stood there on the outskirts of the ‘Snake’s Woods’ - a forest which is known for its mysterious encounters, serving as the source of many local folktales.
It always looked ominous, scary even, especially on full moon nights like tonight. Lovianne had nothing with her but the clothes she wore. She took a deep breath, standing in front of the forest’s entrance.
So much time has passed ever since she learned of her father’s death and her encounter with Lorkos and more importantly how he became her new father.
He was not just a replacement, she truly felt like that about him, he is a good man who genuinely loves her. “Am I really going to do this?” She asks herself out loud, looking up at the bright full moon, which came in full view as a cloud before it just passed by. As if it was a sign from above she nods to herself and takes a step towards the forest.
“I’m doing it for him. I must… After everything he has done for me.”
Lovianne took a deep breath and entered the ominous Snake’s Woods. She had made up her mind and wouldn’t turn around, not being this close to fulfilling her father’s dream.
The magic was so intense that even someone untrained like her could feel it upon entering the forest, like a tingly sensation from head to toes. It was cool, but not quite cold - just right in Lovianne’s mind.
Just to confirm the tales, the mud-brown cat with the sand-brown hair attempted to leave, only to find an invisible barrier confining her. “Hmm… So it is true…” Lovianne mused with a smile and nod of determination to herself.
“Let us see then if I can find someone to lead me to this Shaman…” The cat stretched a bit her arms and legs, knowing merely from looking ahead that she would be quite on a walk today.
There was no real path to follow, plenty of trees obscuring the view and making it harbour to many potential assailants and dangers of these woods.
But she was ready. She might have been only 19 years old, but her adoptive father, an ex-military, taught her well to be independent.
“For you, Father.” She reminded herself, walking onward, climbing over roots, ducking under branches, traversing through the bushes. It was so quiet. None of the birds sang, no cricket dared to make a single peep. The bushes and branches stood mostly completely still.
And then from one moment to another, a siren-like singing began to be heard....
