AC 2002 - Fursuit Parade
Due to rainy weather, they had to do the group shot in one of the main hallways. While it was ramped, allowing for those in the back to be more visible, the poor lighting conditions and cramped space made it impossible to really make out those who were in the back.
Taken with an old film camera, I had scanned the negatives way back in 2002; before FA was a thing, so these have never been posted up until now, as we come up on 15 years later.
At the time, my PC monitor was 800x600, so these pictures of around 900 pixels wide/tall, seemed rather large. I no longer have a negative scanner, so I'm unable to redo them at a larger size.
I always love seeing what these older fursuits looked like, and compare them to what we more typically see today.

This was the end of the parade also. Back then the group photo was taken at the end. This got changed in 2011 when it was switched to the beginning. Now days more cons are doing the photi at the start as it creates a more orderly parade and gets suiters finished and to water quicker.
A lot of the smaller cons still do the picture at the end, probably because they know that a number of fursuiters are late to the start.
From here, the parade then went on through the main lobby, so it wasn't quite over yet. It would have ended with the group shot, if it wasn't raining outside.

The evolution of fursuiting is fun to look back on. I just wish I was more active with taking photos in those earlier years, but buying and developing film was rather expensive when you consider how many rolls you could go through at a single con. *laughs*
It will be interesting to see where things are 15 years from now, and all of today's 8-year-olds are in their 20's. :)

By the look of some of the fursuits you would think that this photo was like 15 years old! =P
This predates me finding the fandome. I first learned of the fandom a little over a year after this photo was taken and my one and only trip to AC was two years later in 2004.
I would be wiling to bet that a good number of thees people had left the fandom a long time ago.

In those early days, it was rare to see fursuiters who were under the age of 20. So by now, you have to imagine at least some of these fursuiters are in their 40's or even 50's. Probably have a family and are settled down in some mundane job, where the days of running around as a furry are long gone.
Even starting in 2004 is a nice stretch so far. I mean, just think of how all those people you know online who are graduating college, were only 6 or 7 when you found the fandom. :)

There are lots of furs now who where still crapping in their diapers when I was long out of collage! Yes I know that there are furs that still crap in their diapers, but I was not talking about them.
Crap I just really depressed my self by reminding my self of how REALLY old and deprecated I really am!
