Another frequently asked question is if my alien character, Xenon, has a mouth. To answer simply: "No. He does not have a mouth."

Legitimately, he does not have a mouth as humans would see it. As in, an opening to the body in which one digests food that is also fully capable of moving. Xenon DOES, however, have four tubes with opening flaps on the front of his snout that will open and close themselves accordingly to allow him to breathe, eat, talk, etc.

Xenon generally drinks smoothies, compared to the alternative of stuffing his snout into a fruit and sucking out its juices. Otherwise, he is unable to chew food, given the four tubes are just like miniature esophaguses. They ungulate to move food to and from his body. Much like a human's epiglottis, each of these mini esophaguses has a little flap that alternates whether the tube is swallowing food or breathing air.

Xenon is able to vocalize, but only after having practiced for over half his life. Given he does not have a human mouth, he had to teach himself to make human vocalizations with his 4 tubes/slits. Changing the width of the openings in his tubes and what part of the tubes are dilated, he is able to create almost any sound imaginable... though, again, it takes him a lot of practice. (On a random note, if you wanted to know what his voice is like, it sounds similar to a middle aged man with a fruity voice.

So, in summary: Yes, he has a mouth... 4 to be exact... but they are not like a human's/most animals mouth.
