In winter, they grow a thick coat so get hot if they're in work. They sweat a lot, so they get wet and if it's cold, they could catch a chill. Taking the fur off helps them cool down better and not get so damp in the thick fur :)
I don't generally clip my two horses, as they don't work hard enough to get too sweaty :P
