Well it's part of my tests. but so far, my Japanise light armor is living the dream, so we will see. plus this is for me, and unless i ramm my head in a tree (could happen) I think it will last =) Super Sculppey is harder then i expected it to be once cooked, i must confest, compaired to toher, cheeper stuff. but it is easy to work with so, i am planning to use it to make my Latex molds =)
I'd have to agree with Growly. I used to use FIMO alot, and for a polymer clay, it was pretty durrible, atleast as much as you'd expect craft clay to be. But apparently I cant get it around here anymore, so I had to switch to Sculpey. You can imagion my anger when the first thing I made with it started to crumble. Even the Super Sculpey is pretty brittle compaired to FIMO. FIMO tends to be more plastic when it bakes, bending alot more without breaking, though it does still have it's limits. Sculpey, on the other hand, breaks with very little force, and doesnt have the give that FIMO does.
Your best bet would be to get ahold of some algenate and plaster. Put a backing on the mask with some card stock, and cover with the algenate. Then use some strips of burlap or gause dipped in plaster to finish the mold. Once that's dry, just peal the mold and algenate from the original. Then you can take a low-temp glue gun and fill the algenate mold. Once that cools, it should peal out and you'll have something that'll take alot more punishment than the Sculpey ever could. Just be sure to wet the inside of the mold first with a spray bottle to make sure the glue comes loose alright. Can also try useing flower too if water ends up being too messy.

I've never tried mixing the two. Hmm.. If I were you, I'd test this a few times before doing anything serious with it. Aside from the two clays possibly reacting badly with eachother, there's the problem of shrinkage. Even though I know they both claim not to shrink when baked, there is always some small amount of shrinking that happens. And if they both dont shrink at exactly the same amount, you'd end up with your creation falling apart on it's own. That's the reason why sculpters never mix red and white clay together when they sculpt.
I concur with them on this. Make a mold of the work you have done so far before you start testing. That clay polymer may not withstand the events you have in mind.
If you do, then you can use a polycarbonate to make your "production" helm.
I would suggest you enlist in a jewelery maker or someone that specialized in prototyping to help you in making the molds.

looks good in my opnion... I think you'll do great with it... Well unless someone hits you hard enough to knock the mask down...
I wanna try LARPing for a while... just to get rid of some anger issues... in a friendly battle kind of way... It's better than destroying property in my opnion...
