Lumean moths (sometimes known as "masked moths") hail from a barren desert region now known as the Looming- once, they rose a mighty theocratic empire surrounding a divine relic known as the Pale Moon. This Lunarians distilled the ichorous blood of the Pale Moon into a potent alchemical fuel dubbed "Tranquility", which they used to power vast, towering machines and weapons of war- under the rule of the Lunarian priestesses, the Quartz Empire transformed their desert home of Lume into a fertile hub of civilization through trade and conquest.

When the Pale Moon rose from its inky crater lake and vanished, the Lunarian civilization soon collapsed. The machinery that sustained the irrigation networks across Lume ground to a halt not long after the Quartz Empire's source of Tranquility dried up, and as the sands overtook the Empire it became the Looming, so named for the towering ruins that remain.

The Lunarian survivors of this collapse renewed their older, nomadic ways, taking on the moniker of "Ipsi". While many Ipsi lumean moths roam the lands, some still pay respects for the empty cities and ruins of their Lunarian ancestors.
