Umeko always carries her umbrella with her as not only does it offer protection from the sun and rain, it also has a hidden sword.
While fighting the paper umbrella doesn't offer much use as a shield but it does make it more difficult for her opponent to react as it hides her blade from view and making it hard to predict her angle of attack.
