"He had the ship burn out the last of this ships fuel to ram that other ship." Alexa explained "The impact took it out, but now our ship is on a collision course for the planet."
"What?" Deimos looked at her. "Where?"
From the projector she pulled up a small model and pointed to the location. "Far from the city we were in, but that's still gonna mean nothing if we're still here."
"It does mean something, I know that location." Deimos Shouted "It's the main Irken Base on this planet, and he knew that's where this was gonna land. We have to stop warn them!"
"We can't do any of that, Deimos!" D said "The controls are both damaged and in the dead of space. We can't save this, but we can save ourselves." He saw Deimos glare at him, and then turned away with a deep sigh. Then D turned to Alexa "How far are the escape pods?"
"They're all gone. He used them all to evacuate his men." Alexa said as her ears lowered "We're gonna try on a whim. I found out the design built in, was that some parts of the ship can detach."
"I know that mechanism." Deimos said and looked "It's used to remove boarding parties in a specific area, or lighten the load by removing damaged parts."
"Yeah, I'm thinking we could one of those to fall back to the planet while The Gigantic drifts and crashes far away."
"Um, with all due respect, Alexa," Artison said "May I ask what weapons on this ship still work?"
Alexa sighed but pulled up a diagram "Nothing. The cannons, the lasers, the missles, they're all unfinished or broken. All that's left are the chaser mines.."
"Mines?" Aritson's ears perked up "Could those me remotely detonated?"
"Yeah, but what's you..." Alexa stared off for a moment, and then shouted "You're a genius! The concussion blast could be used to slow our fall to the ground!"
"Thank you, Alexa," Artison smiled shyly "But I had another idea. Assuming they're at full stock, we could used the mines and area of the ship to hit The Gigantic away from the planet."
"What if we get stuck too?" D asked
"You clearly know nothing about space." Deimos agreed
"True, But I know know physics." Artison said "For every action, there's an opposite reaction of equal force."
"He's right," Alexa added, "The impact will make us bounce back toward the planet"
"Then what do we have to lose?" D said "Let's get to mines."
"That's on the back of the ship." Deimos told them. "This way." And he dashed down the hall.
The two followed, but Artison took greater strides to get beside Deimos. "Why would the mines be back there?" he asked "Shouldn't they be on the belly of the ship for when they drop to the ground?"
"Nothing drops in space." Diemos answered "These mines are for when a ship is chasing The Gigantic."
"So they can fly?"
"No, in space everything floats. So the mines will float in the way of the ships that pursue us."
"Oh," Artison looked at him, and then he smiled "Thanks for answering my questions."
Deimos growled at the remark as they entered the deployment room for the mines. The place was clean except for the bolted down computer for the room. "D, put Alexa in the controls," Deimos ordered "And get us detached."
D did as told and inserted her. Then in a loud Ka-chunk! They were detached. In an instant they all started to fall up from the ground.
"What-What's happening?"Artison exclaimed "How am I floating?"
"There's no gravity generator in here." Alexa said "We're essentially weightless until we hit the planet."
"So this is was it feels like?" D said and looked around "Awesome!" and then he kicked off a wall.
"Focus, you two." Deimos said "We're detached and power could run out soon."
"Right," Artison said as he was trapped in mid-air "Someone push me to the controls!"
D flew by him, and shoved him at the controls.
"Thanks D!" He shouted, and grabbed hold of the controls "Alright, Alexa, Could you launch the first round of mines?"
"On it."
