It's not perfect, but I'm declaring it as done as it'll ever be before I give myself a bigger migraine.
It's been a while, so here's a redrawn version of this piece, which is itself a redrawing of this piece.
While it's far from pretty, I'm gratified to recognize how I've developed and even more so to understand where I can improve. Let's see what another year or two can bring, shall we?

really nicely done! i love the mischeivous fairies egging on the changes on poor Duncan. i do think though that i may prefer the second version simply cause of the toonier artstyle, but this is an objective improvement on it, and i'm excited to see more of poor Duncan and his swine escapades.
Thank you :D
The second one was definitely more stylized, but the purpose of both of these is to push my skills and really see what I can do compared to before.
As for Duncan, while I may not have written anything in a (very long) while, I haven't given up on him. I just need to muster up the discipline, sit my keister down, and finish his story.

oh wow, another big leap from over the years! seeing the improvements you've made from the first to now is really really cool :D i love seeing things like these. it always reminds me to practice more, too, haha.
i think it's the improvements to his face that impress me most here; the eye shapes are still cartoony but i love the expressiveness, and everything just feels a lot more ... idk, anatomically put together? the way his lil' trotters are TFing a bit unevenly is a great touch too. :3c the one thing i think i like better from the 2 year old version is the curve of his haunches, but that's purely in comparison - the posing for his legs looks fine here, there's just somethin' about the other one's roundness (and the stitching detail, i'm a sucker for that tbh). his visible hind hoof does seem to bend a lot more naturally in this one though, which is rad.
the background's lookin good, too
i'm gonna look forward to seeing where this piece is in another year or two!
edit: i just wanna add the way you draw pig tf is So Great, it rules

I'm overall pleased with this piece, but you can kinda tell there was a point where I just gave up on refining it, especially with the background. I noticed I forgot the side stitching after I posted it and that's one detail I kinda wish I'd remembered to include.
Thank you so much for the compliments! I love your work as well, especially goats :)

Very nicely done! ^__^ I'd been lurking around since at least the first Duncan pic, and it's been really cool to see your style develop with it. I hadn't noticed before, but you really did a much better job incorporating mud this go-round; if I hadn't read the story, I wouldn't have known he'd been digging for truffles with his hands shortly pre-change.
I also find it an interesting shift that the first two renditions feature Duncan having realized something is very wrong and looking visibly alarmed by it. In this third take, it appears at this stage to be dawning on him that something is off, but he hasn't yet put his finger on it (understandably, since his left pinky seems the only one left). I like the little furrowed brow and attempt to see what's on his head, which may be why he's not spotted his snout. Ditto the way his eyes look a little half-lidded; I've always thought of fey magic being a little soothing and difficult to notice, so a slight somnolescent effect feels right.
I'm glad superboo pointed out the uneven trotter change; I'd missed it at first, but it's a really neat touch. As a detail apparently too obvious for anyone else to have mentioned, I also like the pink fairy tugging out his curly tail. It's kinda cute, and therefore a note that stands out in the traumatic situation of getting turned into a farm animal against one's will.
From comments up above, I'm glad to hear you do intend to finish Duncan's tale someday. :) As someone who's abandoned writing more stories than he can count, I appreciate how hard it can be to make yourself sit down and finish something. I don't wanna put any pressure down, but I really enjoyed what you did before and look forward to seeing where you go when you come back to it.

Thank you so much for all your wonderful compliments! I tried to include more little details this time around and I'm glad people are appreciating them. As for the writing, it really can be a difficult thing to pick up when you've let the habit slip, but getting so much positive feedback and requests for more is very encouraging and just makes it all the easier to do :)
You're very welcome! :) Thank you for sharing this fine piece.
What you've said on writing is very true. It's a bit like exercise in that respect. Once you're in a routine where it's just something you do, it's satisfying, personally enriching, and pretty easy to keep up. But getting that routine going is difficult, as is rebuilding it if something comes along to derail it -- as shall likely happen a number of times, life being life. :) Best of luck getting back into the swing of things!
