Primrose was one of the early prototypes of the Project M2 back at Cinnabar Island at the Pokemon Mansion, when Prof. Blaine and Dr. Fuji worked on the project commissioned by Team Rocket's leader Giovanni, the scientists worked on a prototype while working on the finished version, PROTOTYPE 1.4 has been known to be equally powerful then her finished version male counterpart along with PROTOTYPE 1.3 and 1.5. All of a sudden the Headmaster of Team Cipher Nascour of the Orre region came to Kanto to the Cinnabar Island for a small request for Team Rocket to give them one of the M2 prototypes in return for profit, Giovanni agreed and sent the scientists to retrieve the one of the prototypes (1.4) to be transferred at the Orre region for further experimentation. During the arrival at the Orre region M2-1.4 had endured more pain than any other pokemon at the Shadow Pokemon Lab. The Top Scientist/Cipher Admin Ein had finally created the perfect Shadow Pokemon dubbed: "Shadow Mewtwo". M2 prototype 1.4 had enough of the pain and destroyed part of the lab and managed to escape. A few months later after hiding from Team Cipher she met a young trainer and was captured by her. At first she was annoyed but also relieved that she was captured by a trainer and not those cruel grunts. She was given the name Primrose (but they call her Prim for short) by her trainer Vanessa Arkos.
