Famous. Last. Words. Oh Rhodes, you know it's coming, it always does! Ethan's just lucky to have such a kind-hearted and understanding friend, even if he does grumble about it.
Of course, I can't exactly blame him, either. Diana is pretty cute, and she has a story that would melt all but the hardest hearts, I'd think.

Also, it strikes me as slightly odd that they don't really bat an eye at Diana's mentioning she's from Aldris, considering it's considered a myth by the rest of the world. Though I suppose Ethan could be too besotted with the lady to really be paying attention, while Rhodes is too concerned with getting them all way in one piece. But it will be interesting to see how that plays out once Diana's words have had a bit of time to sink in.
While there's probably a bit of that factoring into it, the reason why is revealed later in the novel follow up. Both Ethan and Rhodes have their own reasons for why they're not surprised though it would be a bit of a spoiler to get into it here. Suffice it to say it's intentional.
I love how you can see the mock offense in Ethan's simple expression in panel three. It always struck me as if he's saying 'hey!' with his face. ;) Rhodes probably already knows it's pointless to try and get Ethan to stay objective, but you can't blame him for trying.
