I've decided to practice a bunch of portraits, probably most of the better ones will be profile like this, to get better drawing and shading humans and human-like characters.
The background is a photo I took at Gettysburg and actually it started creeping me out as I worked but that's probably because I'm posting this at almost four in the morning in a very quiet house. :/
About the character:
Du'Sorjin is one of my many drow (D&D dark elves) characters. Yeah, he lives in the underdark, I don't have pictures of caves and wanted to put him outside, just because.
Du'Sorjin was the only son of one of the highest ranking families in a reasonably large drow city (I haven't played or written him in a long time, I forget some of the specifics.) Drow have a matriarchy and males are sort of treated the way women were in victorian times. Du'Sorjin's family was cursed by a good deity so that they could have no female children, which meant that he was treated especially badly because his parents took out their anger on him, and most drow aren't too friendly to begin with. His blue eyes are due to this curse and he's also favored by the deity that cursed his family. He was more or less chosen to lead a revolution, which he sort of did but not on his own. He became a powerful cleric of this deity and gathered allies, eventually taking over the city he'd been born in to rule as a very eccentric king.
Du'Sorjin is very quiet, polite, and shy, but he's also very powerful and good with the scythe he wields. He can be very stubborn about a few things, but mostly he's easy-going and very passive. He's incredibly loyal to his friends and protects his lover and former slave, Zakari, with his life. Zakari saved his life when he attempted suicide and after that Zakari not only changed his worldview but also made his life worth living. I might draw Zakari as well, at some point, but I haven't decided.
