My rough approximation of myself in the style of the Paper Mario games.
Sticky Boomerang Hit one enemy anywhere on the field for 1 damage. If it's holding an item, successful timing will steal the item and damage the enemy a second time.
Bubblegum Bandage (3 FP). Heal Nate or Mario by 5 HP and also add a piece of candy to the inventory.
Rock Candy Rocket (4 FP). Shoots out numerous rockets made of hard rock candy at random enemies, which then explode. Number of rockets is determined by how many times you hit the A button. Adds a candy to the inventory. Unlocked after first Shine Sprite upgrade, which adds the purple markings shown on the graphic here.
Sour Shock (5 FP). Strikes one enemy with a lightning bolt, and afflicts the Silence status to prevent him from casting spells. Ignores Defense, but can only target the tallest enemy if foes of varying heights are present on the field. Adds a candy to the inventory. Unlocked after second Shine Sprite upgrade, which gives Nathan wings (not shown).
Field Ability
Fieldmouse. Nathan shrinks in size until he fits into a mousehole - he and Mario will continue following the same jump and directional inputs.

Yeah, these are variants on his spells from my slightly more traditional RPG Nathan's Quest. Sour Shock is aimable as-is, though I might change its properties a little to make it aim for the enemy with the most imposing presence instead. He's got more candy-related spells and more throwing weapons, I had to really pare it down to the bare essentials for the spirit of a Paper Mario partner.
And yeah, my character design seems to complement the simplicity of Paper Mario's presentation really well. It came out a little better onscreen than I was imagining it would in my head, even.
