Personal Statement
"My name is Kathris Reinhardt. I always grew up hearing about the sorts of things that existed outside of the borders of Ashur. As a young cat I couldn't get enough books on other cultures and the different societies that were out there. I didn't get to travel much due to my father's job so it was the best I could do. I'd stare at the posters on my wall and imagine what life was like in other places.
My classmates were more interested in the latest technologies but I'd rather know what caused people to need them in the first place or how they affected the people they helped. As I grew older the adults wouldn't say anything about it but we started to talk about the things they wouldn't speak about when we were in the room. Our nation was running out of energy. It seemed impossible with how many lights and airships flew in the skies, but maybe that answered the question as to where it all went.
In response the government kept making more airships, bigger power plants, and increasing the infrastructure of the city to meet the demand. Other cities followed suit as the Ashurian nation began to face an ongoing problem. It was when I was in my mid twenties I first heard the phrase 'energy crisis'. Everyone had an idea on how to solve it. My father died before he could present his solution.
When I joined the Guardians we heard about a new politician who claimed to have the answer to our energy issues. His solution was a form of crystal that was only found in our neighbor's land, the Talwyn nation. The more desperate the president becomes the more likely it appears it will be our only option..."

Ah, so this is Kathris. As I've said before, I really like seeing these bio pics because it's interesting to see how close my mental images of each character is to their official look. I was pretty far off with this guy, as I'd kind of imagined him being more sort of grizzled and scarred. Though I guess that's maybe my own biases coming out.
I'll have to admit that I find myself siding a bit more with the Talwyn while reading the stories. Maybe because it was Lauren and her friends who I was first introduced to, or just because the real focus seems to be on them. So it does help to be reminded, sometimes, that the Ashurians do have some pretty good reasons for being interested in the crystals and tapping the power therein. And it's characters like this who really do help make them feel more sympathetic. The art is just gorgeous, too!

Kathris is my oldest character, he predates all the others and was my original fursona. I liked his look so much it didn't change at all when I reimagined the universe and moved him along with a few other survivors into the new version. I thought he'd be great for the Ashurian Guardian unit and he's more or less always been planned to be in the role.
The stories are definitely mostly told from the Talwyn perspective, but this was done because some plot revelations are on the Ashurian side and I want to keep those secret until the time is right, but it shall come indeed. One of the things I was determined to do with this series is remind folks the other side is not necessarily the bad guys, and antagonist does not mean mustache twirling evil, but in opposition to the hero. That said, both sides can be 'good' and be against each other. :)
