For several days, Laksha did her best to survive by herself in the jungle. She foraged for berries and other edibles, knowing which were safe to eat from what her mom had taught her. As for shelter, it varied. Sometimes she found a nice big log to rest in, while other times she she just had to coil up close to a tree. She didn't know how far away from the village she was. She could only hear the noise of the wildlife and not much else. The canopy and the bush keeping all the sound in, and anything from the outside out.
As much as she wanted to return home, she had no idea if the soldiers were still there, or if the villagers would turn her over to them. She didn't know what to do... she didn't... think about the after. She just listened to what her mom told her. To run. And that she did. But now that was over, what now?
She came to a stop, and laid down her upper body onto the ground. She laid there... wondering... just what now?

For several hours, Thayi brushed past bush and plant to find the new asset. The scent was hers, and the path the girl made with her serpentine body was quite clear. For a young girl to have gone so deep into the jungle in fright - surely she must have been terrified by what had happened, the soldiers taking her mom away. And then to not know if it's safe to return. She needed help, and she would be the one to give it.
Despite her assignment, would taking her back to Vybrylon be the right choice? While there is the chance she could be reunited with her mom, there's an even greater chance that even if that does happen, their fates may be horribly warped by what ever Vybrylon has planned for them. She had packed enough supplies to last a while out here. But where to take her if by chance she doesn't want Vybrylon to get her?
Pushing past a leafy bush, Thayi stumbled upon something different from the rest of the fauna of the jungle. Laying on the ground, was a young horned viper sagha - the daughter!

Hearing the sound of someone approach, Laksha raised herself up off the ground and looked up at the woman who stood cautiously a few feet away from her. She saw the purple 'V' on the centre of her forehead and shimmied away a small bit, unsure of what to make of the woman.
"It's going to be okay," the woman said. "My name is Thayi. I'm here to help you."
Laksha still wasn't sure of her. "Then, why do you have, that, on your head?" she inquired, pointing at Thayi's 'V'.
"Oh! Yes, well... that doesn't matter now," Thayi replied. "I don't want those people to get you. I'm going to protect you from them."
Laksha looked away, contemplating her words. The woman sounded honest. From the tone of her voice and how she spoke her words, it didn't sound like there was any hidden agenda in them. The woman knealt down, and held a hand out to her, a small smile sprouting on her face. Laksha looked up, and saw her hand. After a few steady breaths, Laksha held out her hand toward the woman and grasped her hand. The woman's smile grew, as she helped the snake girl up off the ground.
"Where are we going to go?" Laksha asked.
"We're going to stay in the jungle for now. I have some supplies to help us out for a while. We'll get you cleaned up, and make sure you're all right. As long as that's okay with you."
Laksha nodded her head.
"Okay," Thayi started, looking around. "Though this may not be the best spot. I passed by a stream on my way. We should set up a camp there."
Thayi started to head off back in the direction she came form, but after a few steps she looked back at Laksha, who slowly slithered up to her. The sagha didn't say anything, but smiled meekly. Thayi smiled at the girl, and the two continued on their way.
Our main characters have finally met. But it looks like I'll be drawing some more jungle backgrounds in the future, ha ha.
I don't do enough pictures of people interacting with one another. This was very good practice in that regard, getting their respective sizes figured out in regards to the other, and getting those two hands to grasp properly.
