Hey guys!
2nd time around for the month and we are going to another stick blend from Gurkha.
Went with something a little more Peppy for a change. When I think of Gurkha, I think of a big name and big expectations from not only the appearance. So let's get to this one. Chose something from a special release awhile back.
Gurkha 125th Anniversary:
Wrapper: Brazilian Cubra Habano
Binder: Ecuadorian Habano
Filler: Brazil, Dominican Republic & Nicaragua
Pre-Light/Construction:
From the the appearance of the box like a small treasure chest it seemed to be a small little
presentation for the number itself. A nice and vibrant light Brazilian wrapper from it's head to toe. A bit rough but finely oiled to the touch. I could make some strong hints of cedar and pepper from the aroma. Light on the veins and the seems very almost invisible. Let's get into it.
The Burn Part 1:
The draw was loose, but not too loose, which I like. Alot of pepper and cedar from the scent. This cedar however was a little more natural and light. Almost like hay. The pepper was very black. Almost like the whole peppercorn you cook with. The notes made it feel like the peak of the day outside around a farm. A feeling like nothing could go wrong with anything. As the notes went further down and little sweet friend showed up. Almost like a light light chocolate. Let's just say white chocolate. The notes for the pepper mainly took the lead at this point. No stopping them now I suppose.
The Burn Part 2:
At this point of the cigar The body started to linger up and become a little more than I could handle a little. The pepper a main part in whipping my pallet into submission. The cedar became a little more oaky and there seemed to be a natural tobacco note joining it. The White Chocolate got a little thicker, but not to a point of covering everything with richness. The body was borderline between Medium and Full.
The Burn Final:
Intense, rough, and a smack to the head with a sledgehammer so far, but I'm still trudging along! With a spongey feel from squeezing a bit, the heat was was getting to the final 3rd. The natural tobacco notes were becoming more than the cedar notes in strength and they pretty much covered over it. The White Chocolate was sort of gaining on the pepper notes to the finish. With the final draws coming to an end, it was a ttie between the pepper and white chocolate. The Natural Tobacco was last to finish. With the final draw, I put this in the ashtray grave and said, "Fuuuuck that was intense."
Verdict:
This was an intense stick by far from any Gurkha I've had in awhile. The body was massive and thick for it's size. Quite honestly if I had to nit pick, I would suggest a more regular robusto size. The body may be a little more intense than this, but the draw itself would be a little more pleasant. Not to say that this was too loose, but it made the body seem a little too massive. Still, this was quite a spicy treat for the day. If you guys want something a little more intense, then this is the ball buster for you.
