Allegedly, one of my ancestors was a Sheriff of Nottingham sometime between one and two centuries ago. Given that this is the same side of my family that went around telling every Native American tribe wherever they settled that they were Native Americans and from the same tribe, this is a little iffy but still an idea I like. (The Native American thing was only recently debunked, my dad told me the results of a DNA test he got during Christmas break.)

Many people forget how close the Sheriff came to beating Robin Hood at archery in multiple tournaments and encounters. He was a pompous and self-centered man abusing his position of power as a civil servant to serve himself, but he was no slouch when it came to fighting and shooting.
