Nanuq comes from a tribe of arctic hares (in this image he summer fur is starting to grow in) and her name means polar bear, named that because of her size and strength. She had a condition that caused her to grow up faster and taller than usual for her kind untill she towered over even the tallest of her tribe.

Because of this some believed she was blessed, while others would claim she was cursed.
Nanuq would train with the village warriors from time to time when she wasn't doing chores around the village where her size and strength were an advantage to try disprove claims she was cursed. However a few years after she became of age she had grown tired of the constant accusations and bickering her presence caused within the tribe so she decided to leave to see some more of the world and find another to train her further as a warrior.
