"Reality coughed. It flickered. It short circuited. Something somewhere somehow went wrong for a second. A moment in time that no one could account for or experience, because for a fraction of a second, what couldn't be suddenly could. And no one really noticed.
Because when everything could be and nothing couldn't, then whatever was would signify that what wasn't was. And what was did not look like anything that wasn't.
It looked like a five pound newborn that wasn't any more special than those around her. A few white freckles and some unusually large ears, sure. But every baby had their special markings. She was no different."
