Sanchez Genet and Mongoose Cub get on National Geographic
The little mongoose cub carrying the Portuguese A3G3 war rifle on the left is among those cub soldiers everyone has heard about when 3rd world countries are unstable.
The A3G3 rifle had been acquired by the locals 30 years earlier during Angola's colonial war for independence from Portugal when it was taken from a fallen Portuguese soldier (a fox)...The rifle is nearly four times older than the mongoose cub who it is assigned to.
Sanchez Genet, right, has a 12 gauge shotgun with an improvised hemp rope sling. In the belt pouch he is wearing are homemade dynamite grenades, with the fuses cut short and with nails and broken glass duct taped around them for shrapnel.
The scared little mongoose cub not only fears for his own safety, but for Sanchez Genet's safety as well, for if something was to happen to Sanchez, that mongoose cub knows he would be on his own alone fighting against UNITA rebels in a guerrilla war.
The headband and armband are to identify themselves as MPLA loyalists to avoid friendly fire.
