Another sculpture, this time the opposite of Damarie.
Whereas Damarie was the largest I've made in ages. This bike is by far the smallest thing I've made, quite possibly -ever-.
Once again this was a birthday present. This time for my mother. The bike this was based off of is a Harley Davidson FLST Super Deluxe. (I think that's right)
The original plan had been to do a far larger, all metal bike (think wireframe) and mount it atop a piece of wood with a sound unit underneath that would play "bad to the bone". While I had the sound unit built and good to go, and a plank all picked out. When it came time to try and weld the wires together, I realized that solder will -not- substitute for welding no matter how much you wish. Resigned to this fact, I decided that I would go for the novelty factor and make a ridiculously tiny motorcycle instead.
This bike was the result. It's tiny, but crammed with as much detail as my shaky hands could manage. Turn signals, brake light, Head light, forks, engine, oil tank, dual exhaust...
The problem working at this scale is that tiny flaws become massive, which lead to the standard practice of sculpting as much as I could until I swore bloody murder, baking, then starting on the next set of details.
As unbelievable as it sounds, I think it took over five hours to sculpt this, and another hour to paint the details on.
All in all, I'm proud of this piece. But folks can probably understand when I say I hope I never try something this scale ever again.
