Y'know, it's kind of nice to see that the Talywn, for all their focus on honing their Craft, aren't above good old fashioned fisticuffs when the situations calls for it. Whatever name you might give to these mystical energies you wield, sometimes there just comes a time when the best solution is a good left hook.
That, and you'd think someone who is aiming to be a master of Ice would be more on guard against slippery floors!

Every Talwyn master has to be trained in hand to hand combat. It's never assumed you'll always have access to your powers. Even under a best case scenario one always has to be prepared for situations like that where you might have your hands bound for example. While Isabelle is better at it than Lauren, she knows how to do it and blend it with her abilities where needed.
That part was due to a little bit of strategy. A comment Lucas makes in one of the prequel stories gives her the idea to utilize Isabelle's powers against her. When she uses the water it contacts Isabelle's powers so when it hits the floor it freezes. :) Lauren throws another water attack to force her to shift her weight, and it's all over. ;)
