Biographical Data
As a young ram Chris was raised in the Talwyn capital city. Having grown up during a peaceful time he chose to join the military once he was of age in order to protect his people. While there he met a young giraffe named Kyle Simon and the two became fast friends. Ever since the two met in training they have always been by each other's side. It is because of their effectiveness as a team they are often assigned to the same unit.
After a few years of service both men were assigned to Captain David Everett and his specialized military unit often sent on unconventional missions requiring military intervention.
Due to his exceptional service during the war, he was placed in charge of the resistance when the Talwyn government pulled out of the capital city to regroup and determine a new strategy.
Personal Statement
"My name is Christopher Hartley. Most people call me Chris. All my life I've only wanted to do one thing. Protect those who can't do it themselves. My father was a crystal cutter, fashioning crystals for the Talwyn masters and those who use such crystals in their daily trade. My mother made the pieces the stones would fit into for practical use. Together they owned a shop in the capital city.
When I became eighteen I expressed a desire to join the military. My father was somewhat disappointed given he'd wanted me to follow in his hoofprints but I think my destiny lies somewhere else. Cutting stones is a fine trade, but I haven't the fine eye for it my father does. In time he understood, and he saw me off the day I went to enlist. I don't think he's ever been prouder than the day I came home in my uniform for the first time.
My bunkmate in the barracks was a giraffe named Kyle. They weren't kidding when they said they were tall. He and I got to talking as we settled in and we soon decided to stick together. Training, meals, you name it, we shared the time as we got used to life away from home. While I was only a short walk away from visiting my father it was the first time I'd been on my own, so to speak. He and I soon found we made a great team, and there is no one else I would rather have at my side or watching my back.
We bounced around from assignment to assignment, usually together. At one point we were assigned to Captain David Everett. I heard he was the husband of the Talwyn master of healing. While meeting a new commander is always a little nerve wracking, he seemed to be a good man and someone I could respect.
After the war, I found myself in a position of command, one I didn't ask for. Nevertheless, I took on the burden because there was no one else. The president asked me to run the resistance, and you don't say no to that. The day the city fell to the Ashurians the government and the masters pulled out, only they didn't all make it. After the line fell, Kyle and I found a young girl and her mother. The mother was dying, even her healing powers couldn't save her. I knew she was a Talwyn master, and my captain's wife.
That day I became the new Talwyn master of healing. I'm still not sure what that means. No one knows other than Kyle and Topaz and a few others. Perhaps it's better that way for now."

Yet another reluctant leader. We do seem to have our share of them between us. But he sounds like a really nice person, and I can definitely respect his desire to help people, and to heal them. Those may be the most important qualities to look for not just in a leader but in any soldier, especially in difficult times like the one he's facing. The incident with the dying woman during the fall of the Talwyn capital clearly had an effect on him far beyond his new station, too, which is a nice little glimpse into the sort of person he is.
I could have sworn I'd commented on this one earlier, so sorry about the delay! I think I must just have neglected to actually hit the 'reply' button! But he's a really interesting character and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more!

Chris is no stranger to doing what has to be done. Having served in the Talwyn military to him it was another duty he needed to perform. While he no doubt would have preferred to just have kept fighting the Ashurians head on, he understands he's part of a much larger machine. Loyalty is high on most of my character's lists, on both sides. The incident he mentions is seen in the present time comic, and has a huge effect on how things are later on. It all kind of came together at the same time, since in order to satisfy certain conditions I had to have certain prerequisites, and they all just kind of fit together.
I always enjoy hearing your thoughts!
