From My LJ:
I have something to say!
Yay for George Lucas FINALLY releasing the original Star Wars films on DVD!!! Let this be a lesson for ALL artists! No matter how crappy you think your old artwork is, never trash it or hide is away. Somebody out there loves it!
I personally find it endearing that G.L. is just like the rest of us art types. He wants people to ignore the original "rough draft" movies in favor of the what he see as the completion of his work of art. But part of being an artist is remembering that you can't control what people connect to, and if they like a Hahn who shoots first and costumes that were made from scraps and trash lying around, you can't change that!
One of my best selling prints is the pic I did forever ago of Xianjaguar. I can't stand that picture! I see all the flaws with it! But, people like it and connect to it, so I leave it out there. If I redid that pic, I won't ever recapture what it is about that picture that people like so much. It wouldn't be the same, it would be a diffirent pic all together.
Ok, enough babbling from me! I'm going to hunt for change in the couch cushions and make wishes to the DVD Faries. I have enough left on my Gift Card to buy them, but I'm going to California next week, so I'm going to wait.

What an artist sees in flaws can generally be missed by others. It's a lovely piece, flaws or none.
As for good ol' GL, he's a dolt. He seems so ashamed of the first three movies (ep. 4-6) and beams with pride and joy over the next three (1-3) which were hideous. Ah well.

I always thought this turned out awesome. Sometimes a pic turns out 'overall' really good, so that the flaws that ARE there are 'hidden' for the most part and don't detract from the pic. This is one of those instances. It's such a good pic that the flaws that do exist aren't noticed.
of course, whenever one has a jaguar in the picture, it's just instantly full of 'win'. ;D
